The arts of barzanji and marhaban are among the vocal arts of the Islamic heritage. It has long been practiced by the Muslim community in particular occasions. The arts of barzanji and marhaban are actually sequential poetries about the Prophet PBUH that delivered with a distinctive melody. This practice gives good implication in appreciating the life of Prophet PBUH and are able to foster unity among the community. However, the recent development shows that both arts become sidelined from the society. This article explains about the history as well as the role of the arts of barzanji and marhaban. In order to boost the arts of barzanji and marhaban, few suggestions are given so that these arts will be continuously practiced in the society.
