Publication A Global Zakat Game: Application Of Technology In Teaching And Learning For Global Peace Agenda(IIUM PRESS, 2019) ;Ab Rahman, MF ;Ab Rahman, A ;Thaidi, HAAAb Ghani, NFATechnological development has been exponential and its growth is at par with current modernisation. Increasingly sophisticated technological systems are steering societies into a new era that makes technology a very important tool. Children's minds are highly susceptible to technology enabling them to become skilful in using gadgets and in surfing the internet. However, the teaching and learning in classrooms still adopt traditional or conventional methods. This paper aims to critically examine the development of the portable application named Global Zakat Game (GZG) as one of the initiatives to help increase the level of education in Malaysia so that it will be in line with the development of information technology and communication today. The use of this application will also help teachers to disseminate universal values such as charity and raise awareness of issues such as the quest for peace both within the nation and globally, among people of different nations. A qualitative methodology was employed to analyse data using the inductive and deductive approach. The findings show that the GZG application could help students to understand the values of charity in zakat well, although it is only played online. This is because GZG encompasses almost the whole zakat syllabus including types of zakat, the rate of zakat, the calculation of zakat, and questions related to zakat. The education system should not lag behind in the use of technology and should upgrade its teaching-learning methodologies in line with the increasing sophistication of technology today. Through modern education awareness of global peace and values such as charity can be instilled and inculcated in the young. This paper suggests that through the teaching and learning of zakat using the portable applications GZG, global peace awareness and other relevant values could be successfully inculcated among students. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication A Proposed Mosque Model For Zakat Governance Towards Achieving Global Peace(IIUM PRESS, 2019) ;Ab Rahman, A ;Thaidi, HAAb Rahman, MFThe Global Peace Index (GPI) aims at identifying potential mechanisms to sustain and quantify the level of peacefulness among countries. The recent GPI results indicate that many Muslim majority countries score low on the level of peacefulness. Coincidently, according to UNDP's Human Development Index these countries also suffer from severe multi-dimensional poverty. Alleviating poverty and increasing the socio-economic well-being are believed to be among the key factors to increase the level of peacefulness. Hence, the study argues that good governance of zakat funds would be among one of the solutions. This could be done by enhancing the role of mosques as a platform to manage zakat funds. Proper management of zakat funds could help contribute to the satisfactory achievement of the peacefulness level. However, a clear and effective system in managing zakat funds through mosques is yet to be established. Therefore, the present study aims to develop a model of good governance for mosques to manage zakat funds. In developing a model the study has identified three fundamental units namely: Governance Unit, Recipients Information and Multimedia Unit and Collection and Distribution Unit. It is hoped that the proposed model could contribute to better zakat management, enhance the role of mosques and achieve peace. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication The Analysis of Gharar Existence inThe Implementation of Tawarruq Personal Financing(Univ Sultan Azlan Shah, 2014) ;Thaidi, HAA ;Ab Rahman, MFAb Rahman, ATawarruq personal financing is one of the most profitable Islamic finance products to Islamic financial institutions. However, it has been pointed out that its implementation triggered some controversial issues which related to the prohibition of gharar (ambiguity). This problem is getting bigger because there is no specific guideline prepared by the Central Bank of Malaysia (BNM) for the sake of proper tawarruq implementation. Hence, the objective of this research is to evaluate the existence of gharar in the tawarruq personal financing. This qualitative research adopts library method and observation method. The primary data is gained through the method of interviews with three selected respondents from Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB). This research discovered that the gharar is existed in the implementation of tawarruq personal financing. This research concluded that its existence is permissible based on gharar yasir principles. The clarification in this research will retrieve the skeptical towards Islamic banking products and boost its productions. Nevertheless, it is recommended that this kind of research could be extended to explore on the other Islamic financing concepts such as musharakah, ijarah and al-rahnu to be implemented as personal financing instruments. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication The Implications of Anti-Hadith Deviation Toward the Muslim Community(Amer Scientific Publishers, 2018) ;Wazir, R ;Usman, AH ;Sudi, SAb Rahman, AAs a consequence of independent thinking that is unbind by the holy revelation, an anti-hadith movement is established and it rejects the hadith as a source of Islamic law. It is said to have established during the life of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), but it was more individualistic and unserious. However, it quickly influences Muslims, especially those who believe in independent thinking and in the opinion that Islam needs to be modernized. This article will focus on the deviations made by those who are known by various names, but have one thing in common, which is rejecting hadiths. The implications resulting from the anti-hadith movement around the world via various platforms will be analyzed in the aspects of faith, law, worship, Islamic law, thought, knowledge, religious institutions and Islamic civilization. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Wavelet-based Aortic Annulus Sizing of Echocardiography Images(IEEE, 2017) ;Mohammad, N ;Omar, Z ;Sheikh, UU ;Ab Rahman, ASahrim, MAortic stenosis (AS) is a condition where the calcification deposit within the heart leaflets narrows the valve and restricts the blood from flowing through it. This disease is progressive over time where it may affect the mechanism of the heart valve. To alleviate this condition without resorting to surgery, which runs the risk of mortality, a new method of treatment has been introduced: Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), in which imagery acquired from real-time echocardiogram (Echo) are needed to determine the exact size of aortic annulus. However, Echo data often suffers from speckle noise and low pixel resolution, which may result in incorrect sizing of the annulus. Our study therefore aims to perform an automated detection and measurement of aortic annulus size from Echo imagery. Two stages of algorithm are presented - image denoising and object detection. For the removal of speckle noise, Wavelet thresholding technique is applied. It consists of three sequential steps; applying linear discrete wavelet transform, thresholding wavelet coefficients and performing linear inverse wavelet transform. For the next stage of analysis, several morphological operations are used to perform object detection as well as valve sizing. The results showed that the automated system is able to produce more accurate sizing based on ground truth. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Zakat Institution in Malaysia: Problems and Issues(Univ Sultan Azlan Shah, 2012) ;Ab Rahman, A ;Alias, MHOmar, SMNSZakat administration in Malaysia is a State matter in particular relating to the passing of regulations and statutes. The respective Heads of States (the rulers) are heads of Islam as enshrined in the Federal Constitution. This paper gives a chronicle of the transformation and phases of development of zakat institution in Malaysia. Zakat institution can play an important role in complementing the Government's poverty eradication effort although its scope is for the poor and needy Muslims only. Besides the poor and needy, there are other beneficiaries allowed by the Syariah. Its success would also help to buffer the effects of recession of the economy on the poor through capacity building and mind-set transformation. The effectiveness of the zakat institution in carrying out its duties would depend on a number of factors viz. expansion of new resources for zakat, the collection of zakat from tangible and intangible properties, systematic zakat management, efficient zakat distribution and the thoroughness of implementation of Islamic rules. The article would discuss on matters that should be dealt with in order to improve zakat institutions in Malaysia in terms of the inefficiency issue, prospective payers, and capacity building.
