Publication Effects Of Impacted Lower Third Molar Removal On Alveolar Bone Height And Periodontal Parameters On Adjacent Second Molar(Ektodermal Displazi Grubu, 2020) ;Wan Nur Alwani Wan Abdul Aziz ;Azlan JaafarAhmad Dzulfikar SamsudinThe effect of surgical third molar removal on the periodontal parameters at distal sites of second molar revealed inconsistent results.Clinical parameters and radiographic parameter; alveolar bone height (ABH) were studied between six to 24 months post-surgery. Thirty-three subjects who had mesio-angular or horizontal impaction of third molar with available previous records of digital orthopantomogram (OPG) were recruited into the study. ABH of adjacent second molar on the previous OPG were compared with the current OPG. Probing pocket depth (PPD), bleeding on probing (BOP), recession (REC) were also recorded. ABH distal to second molar showed significant improvement as shown in reduced cementoenamel junction to alveolar bone crest (CEJ-ABC) distance from 4.3mm±1.9 pre-operative to 2.80mm±2.05 post-operative (p<0.001). No significant difference was found in ABH between 47 and 37 at baseline;(4.09±1.09mm vs 4.30±2.55mm) and post-surgery (3.00±2.20mm vs 2.70±2.35mm) where p<0.423. Distal sites of second molars consistently showed significantly higher mean PPD (3.76±1.32mm) when compared with mesial, mid buccal and mid lingual sites (p<0.001).Higher frequency of BOP(90.9%) were also recorded for distal sites. Surgical removal of impacted third molars demonstrated significant gain in ABH of second molar post surgically. Significantly deeper PPD were also recorded at distal sites as compared to other sites. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication The efficacy of 3 irrigating solution in surgical removal of lower wisdom tooth: a pilot study(Universiti Sains Malaysia, 2016) ;John Chong Keat Hon ;Ahmad Dzulfikar SamsudinMei Siang MaSurgical removal of impacted lower wisdom tooth has become increasingly costly to patient while still remains as the most common dental surgical procedure that is performed on outpatient basis. In the present study, a total of 23 patients with impacted lower wisdom tooth were surgically removed under local anaesthesia by using different irrigating solution namely, normal saline, distilled water and chlorhexidine. The samples underwent standard operating procedures and medication. Post operative complications in terms of pain, swelling, infection and delayed wound healing were assessed and compared on Day 1 and Day 7 after surgery. The result of this study showed that there is no significant difference between the three irrigating solution used insurgical removal of impacted lower wisdom tooth in terms of postoperative complication. A bigger scale of research with more samples is recommended to evaluate the most efficacy irrigating solution during surgical removal of impacted lower wisdom tooth. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Lingual Mucosal Ulceration with Bony Sequestration(USIM Press, 2022) ;Ahmad Dzulfikar SamsudinAzmiza Syawani JasniThis case report describes a rare condition of lingual mucosal ulceration associated with bony sequestration following non-surgical lower molar tooth extraction of a healthy 58-year-old female patient. Clinically, she presented with a painful ulcer on the lingual aspect of the posterior mandible and noticed a sharp bone which caused irritation to the side of the tongue. The exposed bone was removed surgically, and the ulcer was completely healed. Thus, emphasizing the understanding of the causative factors of oral ulcers can help in giving a proper treatment plan. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Prevalence And Reasons For Missed Dental Appointments Among Patients Treated By Undergraduate Dental Students Of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia(IIUM Press, 2022) ;Nur Farah Insyirah Khairuddeen ;Nur Haifa Najihah Ahmad Nazari ;Aws Hashim Ali Al-Kadhim ;Ahmad Dzulfikar Samsudin ;Norashikin Amran ;Nor Faharina Abdul HamidAzlan Bin JaafarMissed dental appointments drastically affect treatment proficiency and productivity of dental care facility. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and reasons for missed dental appointments among patients treated by clinical dental students of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). A total of 202 folders from year 2018 to 2020 treated by year 3 to year 5 dental students were retrieved from a pool of patient’s record files using simple random sampling methods. Information on missed appointments was recorded. Other patients’ information was kept confidential. The percentage of missed dental appointments among patients under clinical dental students’ care was 37.1% (95% CI=30.7, 44.0). The majority of patients who missed dental appointments were male (37.6%), adults (38.7%) and employee (40.2%) patients. The most reported reason for the missed dental appointment was due to personal matters (36%) and the least was forgetfulness (0.6%) and miscommunication (0.6%). In conclusion, missed dental appointment commonly occurs among patients and frequently it was due to personal matters. A proper explanation by the students before scheduling an appointment is crucial to avoid any future missed dental appointments. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Short Dental Implants On Rehabilitation Of Atrophic Maxillary Ridge Utilizing Digital Planning(USIM Press, 2021) ;Muhammad Syafiq Alauddin ;Zurairah IbrahimAhmad Dzulfikar SamsudinThis is a clinical case of a healthy man with a missing upper right lateral incisor (#12) and canine (#13) who requested for a permanent prosthetic replacement due to a history of trauma. An orthodontic alignment was performed to idealise the spaces in the upper and lower arches. A horizontal guided bone regeneration (GBR) was then performed on the residual ridge on #12 and #13 using the xenograft [Cerabone ®, Botiss gmbh, Berlin, Germany] and resorbable collagen membrane (Lyoplant®). After 12 months, the radiographic analysis showed apparent bone-fill with an adequate horizontal bone gain which was further analysed using a specialized software for digital implant planning [R2GATE v1.1.1; Megagen, Daegu, Korea]. Two short dental implants (7.0 mm) were incorporated as part of the overall treatment plan. In this case, the utilization of the short implants on a previously augmented ridge with the aid of a digital implant planning showed excellent an clinical outcome. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Trends in antimicrobial resistance in Malaysia(Malaysian Medical Association, 2021) ;Nashreeyn Mohamed Naeemmudeen ;Nur Ainaa Nabihah Mohd Ghazali ;Hasnah Bahari ;Rosni Ibrahim ;Ahmad Dzulfikar SamsudinAzmiza Syawani JasniIntroduction: Antibiotic resistance is a burgeoning problem worldwide. The trend of bacterial resistance has increased over the past decade in which more common bacteria are becoming resistant to almost all the antibiotics currently in use, posing a threat to humans and even livestock. Methods: The databases used to search for the relevant articles for this review include PubMed, Science Direct, and Scopus. The following keywords were used in the search: Antimicrobial resistance, Malaysian action plan, antibioticresistant bacteria, and Malaysian National Surveillance on Antimicrobial Resistance (NSAR). The relevant articles published in English were considered. Results: The antibiotic-resistant bacteria highlighted in this review showed an increase in resistance patterns to the majority of the antibiotics tested. The Malaysian government has come up with an action plan to create public awareness and to educate them regarding the health implications of antibiotic resistance. Conclusion: Antimicrobial resistance in Malaysia continues to escalate and is attributed to the overuse and misuse of antibiotics in various fields. As this crisis impacts the health of both humans and animals, therefore a joined continuous effort from all sectors is warranted to reduce the spread and minimize its development.
