Publication Degloving injury of ascending colon following blunt abdominal trauma(Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences University, 2018) ;Tharveen N. ;Andre D. ;Firdaus O. ;Hayati F. ;Affirul C.A. ;Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences ;Hospital Kajang ;Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS)Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)Degloving injury to the colon caused by blunt abdominal trauma is an extremely rare injury. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of degloving injury to the ascending colon in the literature which further accentuates the rarity of this case report. This is a 40-year-old gentleman who was a motorcyclist, had a road traffic incident where he was hit by a car from the back. On arrival, he was hemodynamically stable but there was tenderness over right side of the abdomen. Computed Tomography (CT) of the abdomen showed large ascending colon haematoma with contrast extravasation. An emergency laparotomy revealed a degloving injury of the ascending colon and the mesentery thus, a right hemicolectomy was performed. The postoperative course was uneventful and patient was discharged well. We describe a 40-year-old gentleman who had involved in road traffic accident, sustained degloving injury to the ascending colon and discuss its literature review. Journal of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences University. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Diagnostic challenge in a cystic lesion of the epigastrium: A case report(Gazi Universitesi, 2018) ;Hayati F. ;Azizan N. ;Ariffin A.C. ;Kiang K.F. ;Zuhdi Z. ;Jarmin R. ;Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences ;Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) ;Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Medical CentreA diagnosis of cystic lesion of epigastrium is challenging without strong evidence from history and physical examination. A 33-year-old lady has an epigastric mass without hepato-pancreaticobiliary symptoms, was unable to be diagnosed through radiological assessment and biochemical markers. She was diagnosed with hepatobiliary cystadenoma through intraoperative assessment. We present a case of biliary cystadenoma with diagnostic challenge. Copyright 2018 by Gazi University Medical Faculty. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication A diagnostic conundrum in a localized ascending aortic aneurysm(Gazi Universitesi, 2018) ;Ariffin, AC ;Ngadiron H. ;Hayati F. ;Azizan N. ;Kadir F. ;Zakaria A.D. ;Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences ;Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) ;Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS)Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)Aortic dissection (AD) is an uncommon life-threatening emergency. Its development is usually subtle and easily missed. On the other hand, an aneurysm nearly always requires immediate surgical intervention. Both interventions are technically different and pose their own challenges. We experienced a distinct case of AD of the ascending aorta in a 65-year-old lady, who presented with a sudden onset of severe chest pain and shortness of breath. Thoracic aortic aneurysm was suspected as computed tomography revealed a saccular aneurysm of the proximal ascending aorta with no involvement of the valve and aortic branches. Surgery was decided after considering the risk of rupture and mortality. However, a diagnosis of localized aortic dissection was discovered and repaired accordingly. We discuss the pitfalls of diagnostic modalities and the techniques of surgical repair. Copyright 2018 by Gazi University Medical Faculty. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication The indigenous young man with progressive abdominal distension(Gazi Universitesi, 2017) ;Azfaruddin W. ;Zuhdi Z. ;Ariffin A.C. ;Azman A. ;Hayati F. ;Jarmin R. ;Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences ;Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Medical Centre ;Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS)The incidence of pancreatic ascites is unusual. It is uncommon sequelae of chronic pancreatitis. Smith first discovered it in 1953 in the literature. The etiology includes chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic pseudocyst, pancreatic trauma and idiopathic in origin. Despite a rise in the incidence, it is scarcely reported. This is a case of a 20-year-old man presented with repeated acute pancreatitis episode complicated with gross ascites. Pancreatic duct stones were identified intra-operatively. Frey’s surgery was the procedure of choice. We discuss the presentation, choice of treatment and outcome. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Undifferentiated embryonal sarcoma of the liver: An enigma of diagnosis(Gazi Universitesi, 2018) ;Ariffin AC ;Hayati F. ;Azizan N. ;Zuhdi Z. ;Azman A. ;Othman H.A. ;Jarmin R. ;Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences ;Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) ;Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS)Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)A 20-year-old man presented with peritonitis requiring emergency laparotomy. He was found to have a huge liver abscess on the right lobe. Open drainage was performed but the abscess was persistently unresolved upon follow up. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a solid liver lesion with raised Ca 19-9. Right hepatectomy was subjected and histology was consistent with a rare and aggressive case of embryonal sarcoma of the liver. Despite oncologic resection, he developed local recurrence and succumbed to death in 6 month postoperatively. We describe a unique aetiology of liver abscess with literature reviews of undifferentiated embryonal sarcoma of the liver. Copyright 2018 by Gazi University Medical Faculty.
