A congenital mesenteric defect is very rare but can potentially cause internal hernia with consequent incarceration or strangulation of the small intestine. It has been reported in the field of paediatric surgery but rarely in adult. Herein, we report a case of congenital internal hernia in adult. 2018 Surgical Society of Northern Greece. Publication Preduoenal portal vein: An unusual presentation in a jaundiced adult(Surgical Society of Northern Greece, 2017) ;Jailani R.F. ;Jarmin R. ;Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences ;Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)Preduodenal portal vein commonly present in neonate and delayed presentation in adulthood is rarely reported. We presented a case of preduodenal portal vein in a man who presented with features of ascending cholangitis. Physical examination was unremark-able. An ultrasound of the biliary system demonstrated gallbladder stone with dilated left intrahepatic ducts. The right hepatic duct and common bile duct were spared. ERCP revealed a small common bile duct and intrahepatic duct with distortion of the ampulla. CT abdomen shows malrotation of the gut with preduodenal portal vein and abnormality of the intrahepatic inferior vena cava. MRCP showed a normal caliber of biliary tree except for a small abrupt tapering at the common channel. Otherwise the anatomical location of pancreatic duct is normal. We are reporting our unique case and the radiographic images are discussed. The literature of PDPV with other visceral organs anomalies are reviewed. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Rare and unusual case of polyarteritis nodosa involving the gastrointestinal tract leading to bowel gangrene(BMJ Publishing Group, 2017) ;Jagwani A.V. ;Fathi N.Q. ;Jailani R.F. ;Zakaria A.D. ;Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences ;Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Medical Centre ;Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) ;Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a systemic necrotising vasculitis preferentially targeting medium-sized arteries and not related with glomerulonephritis or small vessel involvement. Clinical manifestations of PAN are multisystem. The gastrointestinal, renal, cardiac, musculoskeletal, skin and central nervous systems may be involved. The aetiology remains unknown, and the ensuing vasculitis may lead to aneurysm formation and thrombosis in any organs of the body with resultant ischaemia. PAN of the intestines is a relatively common manifestation of this disease but rarely causes bowel ischaemia resulting in necrosis. Here we report a case of a young Chinese patient who presented with an acute abdomen requiring surgery and made good recovery post operatively. He remains free of symptoms while on steroid therapy. 2017 BMJ Publishing Group Ltd. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication “Rukhsah” solat among hospitalized patients: Where are we now?(American Scientific Publishers, 2017) ;Jailani R.F. ;Arief Hamid ;Ariffin A.C. ;Ngadiron H. ;Dewa M.N. ;Bain M.A. ;Shariff M.S.M. ;Eyzawiah N. ;Rani M.D.M. ;Faculty of Medicine and Health SciencesUniversiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)Solat ranked the second among the five pillars of Islam. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had taught us about Solat during sickness. As narrated by ‘lmran bin Husain had piles so I asked the Prophet about the prayer. He said “Pray while standing and if you can’t pray while sitting and if you cannot do even that then pray lying on your side.” Having the knowledge of performing Solat during sickness is crucial in allowing Muslim patients to perform Solat despite being hospitalized. This study aims to assess the level of knowledge, attitude and practice of Solat and ablution among hospitalized Muslim patients and its association with the demographic data. This is a cross sectional study among hospitalized Muslim patients at selected hospitals in Malaysia caring for medical, surgical, orthopedic and otorhinolaryngology patients. Patients are required to answer a set of questions carry out by face-to-face interview. The response rate for the study sample was 95.8%. Out of total 385 respondents, 255 (66.2%) were male and 130 (33.8%) females. Mean age of the respondents was 46.89±16.77 years. 45% respondents have at least completed secondary education. 21% (n = 81) respondents know about rukhsah solat. Only 8% respondents received guidance of rukhsah solat that are mostly from the family members. From all the respondents only 67% perform daily five times solat at home and 48% did not perform solat during hospitalization. The mean knowledge score is 17 (max 22), mean attitude score is 41 (max 55) and mean attitude score is 9 (max 12). Knowledge, attitude and practice score are moderate among patients.
