Publication Honey in The Management of Diabetic Foot : A Review of The Literature(Penerbit USIM, 2014) ;Nurul Azmawati Mohamed ;Nur Iffah Illani Binti Mohamed Rasidi ;Mohd Asha'ari BainShalinawati Ramli"Honey is healing for man" is mentioned in the Holy Quran (Surah An-Nahl 16:69). Honey has many therapeutic properties such as anti-acteria, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, immune booster, and cell growth stimulator. It also promotes wound healing. Diabetic patients are at increased risk of having infection over the foot (diabetic foot) due to presence of peripheral neuropathy and peripheral vascular disease. Management of diabetic foot revolves around surgery and wound dressing. Wound healing in diabetic patient is unpredictable. Delayed wound-healing results in higher chance of secondary infection. This paper illustrates the therapeutic properties of honey in relation to management of diabetic foot. Studies showed that honey reduces inflammation and kills bacteria thus accelerates wound healing. Honey confers less side effect compare to other chemical medicine such as antibiotics. It also soothes the pain, non-irritating, gives no secondary reactions and its allergy is rare. It is a cost-effective method of dressing that can be used in underdeveloped countries. This paper was prepared for Special Study of Module, Year 4 Medical Student, Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Humerus Fracture Healing Using Traditional Chinese Medicine(USIM Press, 2021) ;Fadlul Azim Fauzi Mansur ;Siti Soraya Ab Rahman ;Mohd Shaffid Md. Shariff ;Mohd Asha'ari BainZetty Nadia Mohd ZainCases of mid-shaft humerus fracture are often managed conservatively. However, poor fracture healing is not uncommon and often require surgical intervention with equivocal prognosis and may result in complications such as radial nerve injury and nonunion. We report a case of successful healing of mid-shaft humerus fracture using traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The principles of fracture management in TCM is very different from conventional orthopaedics utilizing light immobilization, active joint exercise and herbal agents that promote bone healing. This case report illustrates the potential role of traditional Chinese medicine in humerus fracture management. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Shoe-lace Technique Hasten Delayed Primary Closure In Fasciotomy Wound For Forearm Compartment Syndrome(USIM Press, 2021) ;Mohd Asha'ari Bain ;Mohd Shaffid Md. Shariff ;Mohamad Hilmi Mohamad Nazarallah ;Nur Dina AzmanAbu 'Ubaidah Amir NorazmiWe report a case of acute compartment syndrome of the forearm in a 51-year-old man with open fracture distal third radius (Gustilo I). Decompressive fasciotomy was performed promptly. Complete progressive closure of the wound without split-thickness skin grafting was achieved using a shoe-lace technique: silastic vessel loop were interlaced held together with skin staplers placed at the edge of the fasciotomy wound and were then tightened daily. Delayed primary closure of the fasciotomy wound was performed after 8 days post fasciotomy with complete opposition of skin edges without tension. Shoelace closure is a good option for atraumatic fasciotomy wound closure with good cosmesis result.
