Publication An Analysis On Youth Drug Abuse: Protective And Risk Factors In High-risk Area(UPM Press, 2023) ;Amin Al-Haadi Shafie ;Khatijah Othman ;Dini Farhana Baharudin ;Nurhafizah Mohamad Yasin ;Salleh Amat ;Rafidah Aga Mohd Jaladin ;Mohd Khairul Anuar Rahimi ;Ahmad Najaa' Mokhtar ;Suzaily WahabNurul Hanna Khairul AnuwarDrug abuse is considered a serious social problem, especially among youth. Those who successfully survive such behaviors, especially in high-risk locations, must have underlying factors worth learning. This research focuses on youth who can avoid using and abusing drugs in high-risk areas. The main objectives are to identify protective factors (PF) that successfully protect youth in high-risk locations and to examine the presence of risk factors (RF) in that particular community. Data were collected through ten focus group discussions (FGD) with youth participants who lived within identified hot spot high-risk areas of drug abuse. Each group contains five participants, which makes up a total of fifty youth participants. The FGDs were audio-recorded, followed by the transcribing process and the thematic data analysis. The finding shows that themes for protective and risk factors are divided into internal and external factors. Internal protective factors are represented mostly by religious knowledge and practice, followed by self-assertiveness. External protective factors are denoted by positive family influences, positive peer influence, and knowledge of drug abuse. On the other hand, internal risk factors epitomize the feeling of curiosity, lack of religious knowledge and practice to release pressure and stress, lack of effective coping skills, and seeking fun. External risk factors embody negative peer influence, lack of parenting skills, negative family influence, and negative neighborhood environment and occupation. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Methodology: The 99 items in 5 domains constructed in this scale were incorporated from the insights of library search and one-to-one and group interviews executed with recovering drug addicts in a rehabilitation institution. To establish the scale to be scientifically reliable, the scale was tested its reliability and validity before it was administered for the real population. The validity of this scale was conducted through face validity with few potential populations to confirm its feasibility while the content validity was done by 2 experts from psychology and drug addiction counselling respectively. Meanwhile, the reliability test of this scale was undergone through a pilot study upon 132 respondents and some tests in Statistical Package of Social Science Version 21.0 (SPSS) were used to measure the internal consistency of the scale. Main findings: The consistency of the overall items of this scale was confirmed to be highly reliable with the value of Cronbach’s Alpha, 0.951. The result of the split- half score for the first cluster of the scale recorded as 0.94 whereas the second cluster was 0.95. The internal consistency also could be glimpsed from its ‘if items deleted’ analysis where the scores are ranged in a small gap of values between 0.929 to 0.934 signifying the scale was well-constructed in term of its language clarity and balanced distribution of items between dimensions and constructs. Applications of this study: This Abstinence’s Likelihood Scale in Drug Addiction (ALSDA-ACREDA) instrument is developed by researchers in which the purpose is to measure the likelihood level of drug addicts towards abstinence. Publication A Randomized Controlled Trial Of Contingency Management Therapy In Enhancing Treatment Engagement In A Drug Rehabilitation Centre(Center for Promoting Ideas, USA, 2018) ;Mohamad Salleh Abdul Ghani ;Mohamad Isa Amat ;Mohd Khairul Anuar Rahimi ;Haslee Sharil Lim AbdullahMuhammad Khairi MahyuddinBackground and aims: Contingency management (CM) is a highly effective intervention and has been widely tested and evaluated in the context of substance abuse treatment worldwide. However, this approach is still new in developing countries such as Malaysia. This article aims at determining the effect of CM on treatment engagement within a psychosocial program in a compulsory treatment center in Malaysia. Methods: A randomized controlled trial design was used in this study. A total of 45 methamphetamine-dependent inmates were selected as subjects and randomly assigned into two groups namely the experimental group of treatment as usual + contingency management (TAU+CM) (n=22) and the controlled group of treatment as usual (TAU) (n=23). The TAU+CM group followed a 12-week CM intervention and 4-week follow up session without CM reinforcement. Meanwhile, the TAU group went through 16 weeks of usual psychosocial session implemented in the center. Measurements: The primary outcome of the study was treatment engagement within treatment sessions. It is measured by three parameters which are the assessment of (1) homework completion, (2) active participation and (3) understanding of treatment session. CM reinforcement in a form of star stickers with certain monetary value was given to subjects who achieved the targeted goal in the TAU+CM group. The value of the stickers started from RM2.00 and the magnitude would increase every four weeks. No reinforcement was given in the TAU group. Findings: The TAU+CM group seemed to enhance the treatment engagement within the 12-week psychosocial program. Overall, both groups have showed an increased treatment engagement with the TAU+CM group has a higher achievement than the TAU group. However, the overall differences between the groups were not statistically significant, thus rejecting the main hypothesis of the study which hypothesized that there will be significant differences in treatment engagement between the TAU+CM group and TAU group. Conclusion: The study of CM in a special population, especially in a compulsory treatment center, has been very challenging for researchers. Some studies had similar insignificant result could be due to the special population effect which needs to be further investigated in future studies. Publication Reliability and Validity of the ACREDA Religious Self-Regulation Questionnaire (ASRQ-R)(Human Resource Management Academic Research Society, 2018) ;Mohd Khairul Anuar Rahimi ;Mohamad Salleh Abdul Ghani ;Norizatul Masturah Mohd Zaki ;Mohamad Isa Amat ;Haslee Sharil Lim AbdullahMuhammad Khairi MahyuddinDrug addiction remains a problem even after the establishment of different rehabilitation centers around Malaysia. Religiosity has been suggested as the way forward in combating drug addiction in a conservative Malaysian population. However, religiosity behavior has not been conclusively researched in Malaysia. Thus, this study examines the validity and reliability of the ACREDA Religious Self-Regulation Questionnaire (ASRQ-R) among recovering addicts in Malaysia. This instrument is adapted from the original 48-item ASRQ-R inventory by Ryan, Rigby, and King (1993) into a shorter, 12-item instrument. The instrument aimed to examine the motivation as to why a person engages in religious behavior and will. The instrument was back translated by language experts to maintain its authenticity, and face validity were done by counselling experts to examine its content. 86 residents at a drug rehabilitation centre in Sepang were chosen to gauge the reliability scores of the instrument. Analysis of the reliability indicated a Cronbach's Alpha score of 0.895, indicating high reliability. This provides evidence that the instrument is acceptable to be used in a Malaysian context, specifically the Malay Muslim population.
