External influences. Including government regulations and societal expectations, add pressure to the reporting. Ideological influences from political and religious ideologies affect how conflicts ae portrayed. Societal factors such as public opinion and historical contexts contribute to the framing. This research employs a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with the 10 journalists and editors of Utusan Malaysia, The Star, Berita Harian and The News Straits Times newspapers. By understanding these influences through a thematic analysis, the study aims to offer insights into media representations, ethics, and interreligious dynamics in multicultural societies, fostering informed discussions on conflict resolution. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Reporting Fatwa In The Media: Reception And Perception(Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, 2016) ;Suria Hani A. Rahman ;Noor Adzrah Ramle ;Safiyyah Ahmad Sabri ;Nur Kareelawati Abd KarimMazni BuyongNews coverage on Islam in newspaper publications in Malaysia has become part of Malaysian dailies since Islam is the official religion in Malaysia. A special section is allocated for Islamic teaching, forum or letter to Editors for certain days in a week. Perhaps the greatest innovation in coverage on Islam can be seen from how Malaysian reporters frame their stories, which many include the definition of religion, faith and moral choices in the secular world. News on Fatwa has, in short, become a major topic of discussion among Malaysian public once it is highlighted. It became an agenda for a period of time in most of the mainstream newspapers. This paper focuses on how the public perceived the news reporting made on fatwa in the Malaysian newspapers by looking at (i) the source of knowledge of the respondents, (ii) knowledge and understanding on fatwa, and (iii) correlation between level of education and understanding of fatwa news. Random samples of fatwa news on various issues were used as reference for the respondents. Then, a survey on 500 respondents was conducted randomly among Muslim public around Kuala Lumpur and the state of Selangor areas. This has helped in identifying the level of understanding and reactions of the public towards Fatwa issued by the National Fatwa Council of Malaysia. The findings also suggested small numbers of the news coverage on Fatwa has emphasized the significance of the Fatwa which, in the opinion of many far exceeds the important of the fatwa itself. This study may help to strategize the Fatwa Council in convincing the general public on Fatwa through news reporting because there had always been questions of reliability since there is no follow-up by the council to the public regarding Fatwa that has been issued by them. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Separating ‘us’ And ‘them’ In Front Pages’ Headlines Of Malay-language Newspapers During Malaysian 14th General Election(Human Resource Management Academic Research Societ, 2021) ;Noor Adzrah Ramle ;Akmar Hayati Ahmad Ghazali ;Moniza WaheedJulia Wirza Mohd ZawawiThe study uses socio-cognitive approach from Van Dijk (2000) to examine main headlines on newspaper front-pages of Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian during the campaigning period of Malaysian’s 14th general election in 2018. For this analysis, 47 news headlines were chosen to highlight the discursive strategies used by the two dailies and how language and power were manipulated within Malaysian population. For many decades, ruling government of Barisan Nasional (BN), controlled the mass media and had justified the act as ensuring the national development and security of the country. These were obvious during general elections when the government expects the Malaysian press to help upholding the state’s influence over the society. The in-depth representational analysis suggests that the headlines were written positively when the news were about 'us' and the headlines were treated in negativity when the reports were about 'them'. Thus, this confirms that the Malay-language newspapers are inclined to serve their political masters’ interests so that they are able to stay in power. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
