Publication An Environmental Microbiology Classroom For Hygienic Awareness Among High School Students(Asian Scholars Network, 2024) ;‘Affaf Rijwany Mohd Rezal ;Nur Umairah Syamina Mohd Sofian ;Nur Fazidah Asmuje ;Liyana Amalina Adnan ;Ehwan Ngadi ;Wan Abd Al Qadr Imad Wan-MohtarRahayu AhmadMicrobial contamination of the classroom environment is a worry since it can create a variety of health problems and negatively impact kids' and teachers’ general well-being. To increase awareness of personal hygiene during a pandemic and post-pandemic, students can reveal to themselves the true state of their body parts, clothing and surrounding conditions that are exposed to the breeding of germs. Thus, an environmental microbiology classroom has been conducted with Biotechnology Club high school students for a screening of microbial growth and contaminations on students’ body parts, attire, and school’s selected area. Swabbing method of students’ hands, collar of the shirt (boys) and scarf (girls) and doorknob (classes, laboratory, toilet & management office) was carried out and subsequently swabbing onto the nutrient agar (NA) plate for microorganisms’ growth. After 24 hours incubation, the colonies of the growing microorganisms were observed, and their number of different colonies were counted. Through this experiment, it is suggested that the students can observe themselves how dirty their hands, clothes and even selected areas like doorknob can cause the spread of the microbial infections if not cleaned regularly. Several hygienic practices, mitigation activities and awareness were suggested to the students in preventing the spread of microbial infection by handing out pocket posters for students to read and paste in rooms or classes. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Analysis of Latin Handwriting Characteristics Among Female Students(Kolej PERMATA Insan, 2023-12-23) ;Nurin Nazihah Rosli ;Fahda Wafiyah Abdul Razak ;Nursyaza Nadhirah Ramli ;Mohamad Hasyir Fadzil ;Mohamad Azani Abd Khadir JalaniNur Fazidah AsmujeHandwriting analysis in forensic science is employed to ascertain whether a questioned document was produced by the same person or to identify individual characteristics. Recently, a significant number of students have increasingly devoted their time to using electronic devices and writing through offline or online applications, potentially influencing their handwriting style. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of Latin handwriting among female students and compare handwriting styles between two different levels of education at Kolej PERMATA Insan. Therefore, 40 female student’s handwriting were analysed based on five characteristics: i-dot shape, letter slanting, shape and size of letters, as well as t-position. As result, no significant differences were found in any of these characteristics between the first year and fifth year students. These findings suggest that handwriting among female students at Kolej PERMATA Insan remains consistent across different batches. This consistency may be influenced by the educational preparation for the examination and peer influence. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Blood Pressure Variability And Cognitive Function: A Scoping Review(Springer Nature, 2022) ;Nur Fazidah Asmuje ;Sumaiyah Mat ;Phyo Kyaw MyintMaw Pin TanPurpose of Review To conduct a scoping review of articles which have evaluated BPV and cognitive function. Articles with keywords, titles or abstracts containing the terms ‘cognitive’ OR ‘cognition’ OR ‘dementia’ AND ‘blood pressure variability’ were identified from CINAHL, Medline, PMC and Web of Science. Recent Findings Methods of acquisition and analysis of BPV and cognitive measurements and their relationship were extracted from selected articles. Of 656 studies identified, 53 articles were selected. Twenty-five evaluated long-term (LTBPV), nine mid-term (MTBPV), 12 short-term (STBPV) and nine very short-term BPV (VSTBPV) with conflicting findings on the relationship between BPV and cognition. Variations existed in devices, period and procedure for acquisition. The studies also utilized a wide range of methods of BPV calculation. Thirteen cognitive assessment tools were used to measure global cognition or domain functions which were influenced by the population of interest. Summary The interpretation of available studies was hence limited by heterogeneity. There is an urgent need for standardization of BPV assessments to streamline research on BPV and cognition. Future studies should also establish whether BPV could be a potential modifiable risk factor for cognitive decline, as well as a marker for treatment response. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Body Mass Index and Sleep Duration in Boarding School Students: A Cross-Sectional Study at Kolej PERMATA Insan(Kolej PERMATA Insan, 2023-12-23) ;Muhammad Nashwan Mohd Nasarudin ;Rahayu AhmadNur Fazidah AsmujeBody mass index (BMI) and sleep duration are closely related health factors that have garnered significant attention in recent years due to their implications for public health. While high BMI has been hypothetically associated with shorter sleep duration in adults, limited studies have been conducted among boarding school students primarily due to variation in their daily routine. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the sleep duration among first-year secondary students at Kolej PERMATA Insan using a survey and determine whether BMI contributes to this issue. Demographic data including gender, height, and weight were then analysed using descriptive analysis. The BMI was calculated and classified as underweight, normal, overweight and obese based on the Malaysian population standards. An Anova test was employed to explore the relationship between BMI and sleep duration. The analysis revealed that the mean sleep duration for the 65 students was 5 hours 21 minutes, with a standard deviation (SD) of 1 hour 5 minutes. Male students slept significantly longer with a mean (SD), 5 hours 13 minutes (1 hour 52 minutes), compared to female students, who had a mean (SD) of 4 hours 46 minutes (1 hour 49 minutes) (p=0.05). However, no significant relationship was found between BMI categories and sleeping duration among first-year students. This study emphasized that gender, which influences different lifestyles, may contribute to sleep duration but BMI does not appear to play a significant role in this context. Future study may further investigate the relationship between BMI and sleep duration considering gender-specific factors. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Instrument used to measure the negative emotional states of mental health is Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). The results of the study found that high level of intelligence was most dominant among gifted students. Whereas the level of stress and depression are in mild level, while anxiety is at a moderate level. The results showed that there was no significant difference between intelligence with the mental health issues. Implications of this study can help the gifted and talented students to seek for strategies to overcome the depression, anxiety, and stress faced by themselves. Thus, assist the gifted students in experiencing balanced social and emotional development. Researchers also suggest for future research to further study on the intelligence with depression, anxiety, and stress, especially among gifted and talented students. Future studies are also needed to understand other factors that may contribute towards the tendency to these mental health issues. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Criminology: Phenomenon on Elder Abuse in Negeri Sembilan Based on Case Reports(Kolej PERMATA Insan, 2023-12-23) ;Puteri Hazwarnur Syida Zazali ;Nur Dalila Abd Aziz ;Mohd Hasyir FadzilNur Fazidah AsmujeMalaysia is currently undergoing a significant demographic shift characterized by a rapidly aging population due to declining fertility rates and increased life expectancy. Alarmingly, reports indicate that 9.0% older adults in Malaysia have experienced abuse and neglect. Elder abuse can, left untreated, have serious and often deadly consequences for victims. The abuse of the elderly is recognized as a form of domestic violence. While elder abuse is a recognized global issue, it remains significantly underreported in Malaysia, particularly in Negeri Sembilan, where only two cases have been reported to the police department from 2000 to 2023. This study aims to address this underreported issue and delve into the case reports from a victimology and criminology perspective. It is hypothesised that the underreporting of cases, as evidenced by the scarcity of reported incidents, may be attributed to the victims’ reluctance to implicate family members. Additionally, older adults may not always recognize their experiences as abusive and may lack awareness of where to seek help. Analysis revealed that both victims were unemployed, and physical abuse was prevalent, shedding light on the motives and methods of abuse. Hence, both cases are drawing theory of social exchange and caregiver stress to explore the dynamics between victims and perpetrators. This study underscores the importance of raising awareness about elder abuse and evaluating the effectiveness of awareness campaigns - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Ethnic-Specific Sociodemographic Factors as Determinants of Cognitive Performance: Cross-Sectional Analysis of the Malaysian Elders Longitudinal Research Study(Karger, 2022) ;Nur Fazidah Asmuje ;Sumaiyah Mat ;Phyo Kyaw MyintMaw Pin TanIntroduction: Despite cognitive impairment being a major health issue within the older population, limited information is available on factors associated with cognitive function among Asian ethnic groups. The objective of this study was to identify ethnic-specific sociodemographic risk factors which are associated with cognitive performance. Methods: Cross-sectional analysis of the Malaysian Elders Longitudinal Research (MELoR) study involving community-dwelling individuals aged >55 years was conducted. Information on sociodemographic factors, medical history, and lifestyle were obtained by computer-assisted interviews in participants’ homes. Cognitive performance was assessed with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) tool during subsequent hospital-based health checks. Hierarchical multiple linear regression analyses were conducted with continuous MoCA scores as the dependent variable. Results: Data were available for 1,140 participants, mean (standard deviation [SD]) = 68.48 (7.23) years, comprising 377 (33.1%) ethnic Malays, 414 (36.3%) Chinese, and 349 (30.6%) Indians. Mean (SD) MoCA scores were 20.44 (4.92), 23.97 (4.03), and 22.04 (4.83) for Malays, Chinese, and Indians, respectively (p = 0.01). Age >75 years, <12 years of education, and low functional ability were common risk factors for low cognitive performance across all three ethnic groups. Cognitive performance was positively associated with social engagement among the ethnic Chinese (β [95% CI] = 0.06 [0.01, 0.11]) and Indians (β [95% CI] = 0.16 [0.09, 0.23]) and with lower depression scores (β [(95% CI] = −0.08 [−0.15, −0.01]) among the ethnic Indians. Conclusion: Common factors associated with cognitive performance include age, education, and functional ability, and ethnic-specific factors were social engagement and depression. Interethnic comparisons of risk factors may form the basis for identification of ethnic-specific modifiable risk factors for cognitive decline and provision of culturally acceptable prevention measures. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Forensic Identification Of Diatoms Based On Morphology In Major Rivers Of Selangor, Malaysia(Forensic Science Malaysia, 2015) ;Nur Fazidah AsmujeVanaja A/P PoupalanDiatoms are photosynthesising algae containing siliceous frustule which are classified under the Bacillariophyceae class. Its existence are everywhere in moist environment such as rivers, ponds, lakes, soils and marine waters. There are nine morphologies of diatoms, namely centric, araphid, symmetrical biraphid, asymmetrical biraphid, nitzschioid, epithemioid, surirelloid, monoraphid and eunotioid. In forensic science, detection of diatoms in tissues may contribute to the diagnosis of drowning. This research aims to identify diatoms based on its morphology in major rivers of Selangor, Malaysia. The samples were collected by scrubbing on the boulders, pebbles and cobbles that were found to be submerged in the rivers and were facing the sunlight using a toothbrush. The rivers involved were Klang, Kemensah, Damansara, Ampang, Kanching and Gombak rivers. The collected samples of diatoms from each river were then heat fixed and observed under microscope. Diatoms were then identified by analysing the morphology of each diatom. Major rivers of Selangor have diatoms which only consisted of eight types of morphology. Diatom of surirelloid morphology was not found in Gombak, Damansara, Kemensah and Klang rivers. Diatoms of eunotioid and asymmetrical biraphid morphology were not found in Damansara and Klang River. Furthermore, diatoms of symmetrical biraphid and araphid were not found in Klang River. Centric diatoms and eunotioid diatoms were not found in Ampang River. Diatoms morphology information will help to narrow down the selection of water bodies of a particular location; linking the suspect as well as the victim. Therefore, this research is vital in forensic science as to provide information and support in the investigation for drowning site. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Halal Vocation Game: The New Edutainment For A Career Pathway In Halal Field(Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, 2024-05-31) ;Nurdalila A'wani Abd. Aziz ;Wan Kamilah Wan Ibrahim ;Mohd Zuhaifah Mohamed Jamil ;Nur Fazidah Asmuje ;Mahiz Spawi ;Abdul Razak Nicholas HsiuAbdul Rahim Albert HsiuHalal industry ecosystem is a network of components involved in the growth cycle and delivery of Halal products or services that contribute to the overall socio-economic development. Eachcomponent in the ecosystem has its own unique activities that are interrelated to enhance thesustainability of the Halal industry. In Halal Industry Master Plan 2030, halal talent is one of the important components in supporting the development of a comprehensive Halal ecosystem in the future through the alignment of the occupational framework. However, it is generally considered that halal talent represents halal executives and halal auditors who are specific to Muslims only (Malaysian Halal Certification Procedure Manual, 2020). However, many are unaware that there are many job opportunities and career pathways that are closely linked to the halal ecosystem, such as laboratory analysts, auditors for laboratory accreditation who conduct sample analysis, standardization committees and consultants who are open to individuals regardless of religious background. Therefore, Institute of Fatwa and Halal took the initiative to design a digital gamification, "Halal Vocation Game", which is an edutainment game in order to promote closely related careers in the halal ecosystem as well as empower halal consumerism knowledge suitable for students and the community - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication I-Forensics for Halfwith(Kolej PERMATA Insan, 2023-12-23) ;Fahda Wafiyah Abdul Razak ;Nursyaza Nadhirah Ramli ;Yahaya Basiron ;Mohamad Azani Abd Kadir Jailani ;Mohd Hasyir Fadzli ;Afiqah Che EndutNur Fazidah AsmujeThe study of forensics knowledge is typically reserved for tertiary education, and as such, the subject content is often presented in complex and outdated formats. 'This platform will feature informative infographic e-posters that explore the integration of forensic science and Islamic principles, fostering a deeper understanding of this field. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Increased Beat-to-beat Blood Pressure Variability is Associated With Impaired Cognitive Function(Oxford University Press, 2022) ;Nur Fazidah Asmuje ;Sumaiyah Mat ;Choon Hian Goh ;Phyo Kyaw MyintMaw Pin TanBACKGROUND Emerging evidence has linked visit-to-visit, day-to-day and 24-h ABPM blood pressure variability (BPV) with cognitive impairment. Few studies have, however, considered beat-to-beat BPV. This study, therefore, evaluated the relationship between beat-to-beat BPV and cognitive function among community-dwellers aged 55 years and over. METHODS Data was obtained from the Malaysian Elders Longitudinal Research (MELoR) study, which employed random stratified sampling from three parliamentary constituencies within the Klang Valley. Beat-to-beat blood pressure (BP) was recorded using non-invasive BP monitoring (TaskforceTM, CNSystems). Low frequency (LF), high frequency (HF) and low-to-high frequency (LF:HF) ratio for BPV were derived using fast Fourier transformation. Cognition was evaluated using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) test, and categorized into normal aging, mild impairment and moderate-to-severe impairment. RESULTS Data from 1,140 individuals, mean age (SD) 68.48 (7.23) years, were included. Individuals with moderate-to-severe impairment had higher HF-BPV for systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure compared to individuals within the normal aging group [OR (95% CI) = 2.29 (1.62–3.24)] and [OR (95% CI) = 1.80 (1.32–2.45)], while HF-SBPV [OR (95% CI) = 1.41 (1.03–1.93)] but not HF-DBPV was significantly higher with mild impairment compared to normal aging after adjustments for potential confounders. Moderate-to-severe impairment was associated with significantly lower LF:HF-SBPV [OR (95% CI) = 0.29 (0.18–0.47)] and LF:HF-DBPV [OR (95% CI) = 0.49 (0.34–0.72)], while mild impairment was associated with significantly lower LF:HF-SBPV [OR (95% CI) = 0.52 (0.34–0.80)] but not LF:HF-DBPV [OR (95% CI) = 0.81 (0.57–1.17)], compared to normal aging with similar adjustments. CONCLUSION Higher HF-BPV, which indicates parasympathetic activation, and lower LF:HF-BPV, which addresses sympathovagal balance, were observed among individuals with moderate-to-severe cognitive impairment. Future studies should determine whether BPV could be a physiological marker or modifiable risk factor for cognitive decline. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
