This study aims to examine the opinions of Jamal al-Banna and Jasser Auda regarding abrogation in religious texts. Both figures are included in this study because they have different backgrounds of thought: Jamal al-Banna is known for his liberal thinking,while Jasser Auda is known as a progressive thinker who still follows the style of thought of mainstream scholars. This research is a qualitative-extractive study, with the main references being their two books related to abrogation:Tafnid Da’wa al-Naskh fi al-Quran al-Karimby Jamal al-Banna andNaqd Nadzariyyah al-Naskh: Bahtsun fi Fiqh Maqashid al-Syariahby Jasser Auda. Based on the research results, both argue that there is no abrogation in religious texts. One of the reasons they provide is that there is no strong evidence explaining the existence of abrogation in religious texts, especially given the disputes among scholars regarding the abrogating verse and the abrogated verse. According to both of them, abrogation has implications for changes in theshariah (Islamic law), so the evidence supporting its existence must be strong.

Islam and Muslim becomes the subject interest of western intellects and it can be seen through their writings and efforts to understand this religion. There are many sources found written by these western scholars on Islam and Muslims. However, some of the literatures seem associate with biased and sense of prejudice where Islam projected in a negative way. This may lead to misunderstanding on Islam because it portrayed in unfavourable images that threat modern civilization. This research observes some of the western documentation in order to get general ideas on claim on Islam through the eye of some well-known orientalist and analyse through the writings of Muslims scholar. The researcher found that these allegations made were untrue and miscalculated. The researcher found that the statements could lead to confusion about Islam especially between ignorant Muslim and non-Muslim. They might believe these accusations and act against Islam. Thus, the researcher suggests that Muslim should be more aware on these issues so that they will not become the victims of these propagations. This allegation does not stop but continue in different method, which is online through websites.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pemikiran Musa’id ibn Sulaiman Ath-Thayyar tentang ‘IjazIlmi. Berdasarkan penelian ini maka didapati beberapa fokus pemikirannya tentang ‘Ijaz Ilmi. Pertama tentang persamaan I’jaz ilmi dan tafsir’ilmi. Kedua tentang kesamaan karakteristik tafsirilmi yang telah ada selama ini. Ketiga tentang rambu-rambu yang harus diperhatikan dalam I’jaz ilmi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metodogi kualitatif deskritif. Berdasarkan penelitian tersebut, maka didapati bahwa: Pertama, Ath-Thayyar berpendapat tidak ada perbedaan antara I’jaz ilmi dan tafsir ilmi. Dalam pandangannya, I’jaz ilmi sama dengan I’jaz ghaibi. Kedua, salah satu karakteristik tafsir ilmi yang sering terjadi selama ini adalah pencocokan ayat-ayat tentang semestadengan teori sains yang cenderung dipaksakan. I’jaz ilmi dalam pandangannya berdiri di atas dugaan dan kemungkinan, bukan kepastian yang mutlak kebenarannya. Ketiga, Ath-Thayyar menambahkan beberapa poin penting dalam rambu-rambu yang harus diperhatikan dalam I’jaz ilmi selain yang sudah banyak dibahas oleh para pemerhati tafsir ilmi diantaranya adalah menjadikan tafsir salaf sebagai tolak ukur kebenaran tafsir sains, artinya pernafsiran sains tidak boleh bertentangan dengan tafsir salaf
