Publication Conceptualising Communication Media And Farmer's Reaction In Problem Solving(Gyandhara International Academic Publications, 2018) ;Bin Ismail I. ;Sabran R. ;Ariffin Y.B.M. ;Faculty of Leadership and ManagementUniversiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)Purpose: Agricultural Extension Services (AES) under structural governance reform that aimed to curb AES situational problem like insufficient of information delivery, suggested communication media principally radio as a tool for farmers to keep up with newest idea and information about agriculture technology and practices. It shows that, radio role is still pertinent on delivery of information for production output. Beyond that, this study is to examine radio as new concept that allow feedback and influence farmer’s information behavior in dealing with AES problem. Methodology: This study propose the reaction of Malaysian paddy farmers could be shape to view insufficient of information delivery within AES as being intervention in increasing farmers’ utilization of communication media such radio. Drawing upon Kim and Grunig (2011) Situational Theory Problem Solving (STOPS) as the framework, aside from looking at the perception of publics towards certain problem. This study construct a quantitative measure of radio through exploratory factor analysis using principal components with varimax rotation to assess the performance of each item in measuring their respective variables and to be examined within STOPS. An extensive reviews of literature then produced preliminary factor and items that were tested through a survey distributed among 110 respondents. Findings: Exploratory factor analysis found the items fell into common factor group and finalized with seven (7) items of measurement for future study. Practical Implications: These results offer initial guidance into the relevance of radio effected farmer’s reaction in problem solving within the proposed model of the STOPS especially at local context. Social Implications: Study forwarded the idea of communication method that assisted public to be connected towards identified problem. Radio can be used to create awareness, share information and give a voice to the community Research Limitations: New research to further investigate other needs of famers through the use of combination of media not specifically on radio only. Originality Value: Study examined the role of radio in farmer’s reaction in problem solving towards insufficient information delivery to fill the gap of knowledge within the framework of the STOPS. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Enjoyable and meaningful learning for indigenous knowledge and sustainability among indigenous people in Sungai Lui(American Scientific Publishers, 2017) ;Sipon S. ;Abdullah S. ;Sabran R. ;Hussin R. ;Hayati S. ;Mokhtar A.N. ;Mahyuddin M.K. ;Arshad A.S.Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)Studies reveal that the dropout rate and absenteeism among the indigenous (Orang Asli) school children in Malaysia is high compared to the national average. It is found that for every 100 Orang Asli children entering Primary 1, only about 6 will be expected to reach Form 5 eleven years later. This study examines the intervention of an 'Enjoyable and Meaningful Learning Module' to reduce the rate of dropout and absenteeism among the subjects. The subjects were selected from a group of Orang Asli school children in Sungai Lui, from primary year 1 to year 6, aged between 6 to 12 years old. The intervention was conducted in April and May 2015. The success of this module was based on strategies that link or connect new learning to the subjects previous experiences which relate the daily concepts to their lives. The strategies also provide them with hand-onlearning. The findings of the study showed that the school attendance of the subjects increased after the two months intervention. A major implication of this study is that Orang Asli could learn better through indigenous language, arts, rituals, folklore, traditional games and taboos. 2017 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication The Influence of Radio in Enhancing Farmers' Perceptual Situation in Problem Solving towards Insufficient Information Delivery(Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Press, 2019) ;Ismail I.B. ;Sabran R. ;Ariffin M.Y.B.M.Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)In Agricultural Extension Services (AES), radio plays a role in situational problems like insufficient infor-mation delivery. Radio not only helps farmers in acquiring information, but also creates a tendency for farmers to deal with informational interaction and to stay connected with the problem. For that rea-son, under structural governance reforms such as decentralisation, radio is expected to have an influ-ence on farmers’ actual perception and opinion in minimising the problem when used in the AES infor-mational delivery process. Drawing upon the Situational Theory Problem Solving (STOPS), this study seeks to determine the role of radio in problem solving (RIPS) on the perceptual situation variables which include problem recognition, constraint recognition, involvement recognition, and referent cri-terion towards solving insufficient information delivery. A total of 400 farmers within AES or the “Rice Bowl” area of Northern Malaysia participated in answering the questionnaire. Data was analysed using the Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The findings reveal that RIPS plays an important role in influ-encing farmers’ problem recognition, involvement recognition, and referent criterion apart from re-ducing their constraint. As a result, all of the four hypothesised relationships proposed in the study’s conceptual model were significant and supported. Hence, RIPS can now be considered as a joint ele-ment in public communication strategy to deal and solve insufficient information delivery for Malay-sia’s AES. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Who is tweeting on #PRU13?(Canadian Center of Science and Education, 2014) ;Kasmani M.F. ;Sabran R. ;Ramle N.A.Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)The popular microblogging platform known as Twitter has become a legitimate and frequently used communication channel in the Malaysian political arena. While the 2008 Malaysian general election was notable for the use of social media by the opposition parties during their campaigns, the 2013 general election saw a level playing field in which the Barisan Nasional coalition had quickly caught up in its use of social media. This study draws on a content analysis of election-related Twitter messages collected under the #pru13 hashtag to describe the key patterns of activity and the thematic foci of the election's coverage on this particular social media site. The dataset is collected from Twitter's public timeline from May 1to May 6, 2013. What emerged from this analysis is there are evidently intensified and amplified campaign messages polluting the #pru13 hastag from accounts that are questionable in their origin. This study adds to the literature that has questioned the predictive power of social media in an election.
