Publication Enjoyable and meaningful learning for indigenous knowledge and sustainability among indigenous people in Sungai Lui(American Scientific Publishers, 2017) ;Sipon S. ;Abdullah S. ;Sabran R. ;Hussin R. ;Hayati S. ;Mokhtar A.N. ;Mahyuddin M.K. ;Arshad A.S.Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)Studies reveal that the dropout rate and absenteeism among the indigenous (Orang Asli) school children in Malaysia is high compared to the national average. It is found that for every 100 Orang Asli children entering Primary 1, only about 6 will be expected to reach Form 5 eleven years later. This study examines the intervention of an 'Enjoyable and Meaningful Learning Module' to reduce the rate of dropout and absenteeism among the subjects. The subjects were selected from a group of Orang Asli school children in Sungai Lui, from primary year 1 to year 6, aged between 6 to 12 years old. The intervention was conducted in April and May 2015. The success of this module was based on strategies that link or connect new learning to the subjects previous experiences which relate the daily concepts to their lives. The strategies also provide them with hand-onlearning. The findings of the study showed that the school attendance of the subjects increased after the two months intervention. A major implication of this study is that Orang Asli could learn better through indigenous language, arts, rituals, folklore, traditional games and taboos. 2017 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

It is focused on disseminating information on disasters such as floods, landslides, typhoons, and haze within a short time in a reliable manner. This application could prove to be an effective and efficient tool to facilitate smooth communication and allows for faster emergency response. The ubiquities of handheld computer technology have been found to be very useful, especially in flood training applications. The aim of this paper is to propose a prototype for one stop center disaster training information through smart mobile phone application called 'MyDisasterTraining'. Smart mobile phones are used as the medium between the community and organizations in promoting the training provided to the public, as well as providing training services to the community about the importance of disaster training. 'MyDisasterTraining' application is a center database and contains the information about flood disaster training in the Malaysian context. It is a simple, user-friendly, and a low cost application which is a mobile application to be used by the third parties training providers, organizations or individuals. It aims to spread the awareness on the availability of disaster training to the society as well as to inculcate voluntarily workforce during the need of the disaster. The utilization and the roles of ICT are described in the context of disseminating the training information to the society, especially on the training of flood disaster. The information is automatically delivered to the officer in charge for prompt response to the civil complaint by identifying the location and situation based on information initially provided by the community via the service. The Informer on Site service is focused on disaster cases such as floods, typhoons, haze and landslides. This application can help the authorities handle disasters more effectively and faster. There is a lack of study between psychological contract breach and transfer of training among workers in Malaysia. 425 respondents from Malaysia Civil Defense Department, Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia who had attended the Disaster Preparedness training from March to May, 2015 were selected as the sample of this study. The instrument used was Robinsson and Marinsson questionnaire and was analyzed using the quantitative method. The finding of the study showed that there was a strong correlation between the transfer of training and psychological contract breach of the respondents. The majority of the respondents found that psychological contract breach can influence their ability to transfer the knowledge and skills gained from the training to their workplace. � 2017 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Research design for this study is case study which used quantitative method. The study involved 140 respondents randomly selected among students Permata Insan in Islamic Science University of Malaysia from Form 1 until Form 4 respondents involved in this study using stratified sampling method which based on their availability to participate. Instruments used are The Self-Efficacy Questionnaire, The Self- Regulation Questionnaire and Academic Motivation Scale. The design of the study uses a survey method. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, independent sample t test and correlation. Research findings shows there is significant relationship between self- efficacy and academic motivation among students, significant relationship between self- regulation and academic motivation among students and significant difference between self-efficacy, self-regulation and academic motivation based on gender among students. Thus, to improve self-esteem, self-regulation and academic motivation among student, there is need of teachers to make diversify in style of teaching when delivering in classroom to ensure delivering are more effective towards students. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

In spite of its importance, less attention has been paid to identifying Malaysian ethnic values from their own perspective. Most of previous studies have focused on a universal approach to identify the values of Malaysians. By addressing the gap, this paper hopes to identify a more comprehensive list of values related to Malaysian communication characteristics in flood disaster management context. Over the past decade, flood has become Malaysia�s most common natural disaster. Sustainable flood mitigation and relief management is important as it reflects the ruling government for dealing with crisis. The psychological support on victims� wellbeing, during and after the disaster is substantial from the humanitarian perspective. Hence, this paper discusses the communication practices from indigenous perspective to help reduce the psychological impact of flooding. This paper presents qualitative data, based on in-depth interviews with 13 flood victims. The findings indicate that local values are important characteristics of effective communication surplus to the aids that bound to reduce the psychological impact of a disaster. This research intends to contribute in terms of the identification of the local code of conduct in communication in an attempt to obtain insights about flood disaster management. Besides, the outcome of the study could help to develop policies for aid agencies, information resources and community organisations in relation to the competency in communication to advocate the betterment and well-being of flood disaster victims.
