Publication Body Esteem: The Relationship Between Father Involvement, Nurturant Father and Young Adults’ Body Image Perception(Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, 2024-08) ;Noor Syuhadah Binti Hairul AnuarSiti Nubailah Mohd Yusof [Supervisor]This study aims to investigate the relationship between father involvement, nurturant fathering and body esteem perception among young adults. A quantitative research design was utilized, and descriptive and inferential analysis were conducted. The objective of the study is to (i) identify the level of nurturant fathering among young adults, (ii) identify the level of father involvement among young adults, (iii) identify the body esteem perception among young adults, (iv) examine the relationship between nurturant fathering and body esteem perception of young adults, (v) investigate the relationship between father involvement and body esteem perception of young adults. The respondents of this study were the 108 counselling students between the age of 18 to 26 years old from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. A questionnaire was distributed among the students which consists of Nurturant Fathering Scale (NFS), Father Involvement Scale (FIS) and Body Esteem Scale for Adolescents and Adults (BESAA). The data that was collected were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 27.0. The findings of the research showed that the nurturant fathering shows a mean of 29.64 with an SD of 11.78 which is falls under the norm. The father involvement scale shows the highest mean for the instrumental subscale (M = 29.05, SD = 8.41). Meanwhile, the body esteem scale shows the highest mean for the BE-Appearance subscale at M = 19.87, SD = 10.07. There is a significant relationship between nurturant fathering (r = 0.473) and father involvement (r = 0.433) on the body esteem perception of young adults. The findings of the study bring about implications and possible recommendations for future research in the field of fatherhood. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Exploring Premarital Counselling and Marital Quality: A Case Study of Muslim Community in South-West of Nigeria(Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, 2024-08) ;Adebayo Rukayat AdebusayoSiti Nubailah Mohd Yusof [Supervisor]The continuous increase in the rate of divorce is high in Nigeria and other African countries. This high rate of divorce affects the Muslim community more than the Christians even though, they are religious. Some of the reasons for the increased divorce rate is due in part to a lack of orientation, high expectations prior to marriage, poor communication, a lack of love, a lack of happiness, financial difficulties, and infidelity. Therefore, it is a matter of urgency to help savage these causes by helping the would-be couples to know what marriage entails before going into it. This calls for the need of the premarital counselling services. Pre-marital counselling is a form of counselling used to prepare individuals for marriage. It is used as an aid to strengthen would-be couples’ relationship, and equip them with marriage skills to enable them to face any possible challenges in their marriage, especially in the early years of the relationship. Thus, this study aimed to explore premarital counselling and marital quality among the Muslim couples of South-West of Nigeria. This study was conducted by using qualitative method through in-depth interview. A total number of four respondents comprised of two males and two females. The data was analysed by using thematic analysis approach. As a result, three main themes have been extracted which are: (i) Identification of the practice of premarital counselling (ii) Benefits of Premarital counselling (iii) Influence of premarital counselling on marital quality. Overall, premarital counselling is a necessity for all. It highlights the importance of counselling in preparing couples for the challenges of married life and fostering stronger, healthier relationships and address critical issues such as communication, conflict resolution, and shared expectations, which are essential for a successful marriage. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Understanding the First Five Years of Fatherhood among Young Professional Fathers(Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, 2023-08)Fatin Najihah Binti Mohamad FoziYoung fathers are one of the important roles in the development child process. But generally, young fathers do not get chances to share their feelings about the experience of fatherhood period because mostly young mothers only get support and chances to share their motherhood experiences and involves in the development child process. Additionally, young fathers nowadays more acknowledge about their role in the development child process especially among the professional group of young fathers. It is because they had awareness about the important roles as a young father especially the early childhood development process which is the first 5 years of fatherhood period. Father is an important individual in the formation of a family. However, social studies related to fathers in Malaysia are very less compared to social studies related to other entities in a family. It is caused the researcher have chosen and conducted this research. Qualitative methods of phenomenology had been used in this study. The purpose of this study was to understand the feeling of the young fathers about fatherhood experience, to identify how young fathers acquire the knowledge about their child development and to understand the changes of young fathers during the first 5 years of fatherhood period. Three young fathers from different professional group that have first child age under 5 years old had been interviewed. Using purposive samples, interviews had been conducted with the young fathers in the form of semi-structured in-depth interview. As the results, it shows the participants sharing their feelings related to their involvement in the child's development. Participants get involved in the child's development from pregnancy to delivery, which results in their partners as mothers not being burdened and receiving emotional support. For future research should use a larger sample size and with a more varied sampling. More young fathers as a participant from the different of professional group like doctor, engineer, lawyer or others. It is also can be include the experts as a participant to share about the fatherhood from their side to compare with the young father sharing.
