There is a perception that international media play a vital role in creating a relationship between Islam/Muslims and terrorism in their coverage that leads to the formation of frames on Islam/Muslims and terrorism. Methodology/Technique - Based on this view, the researcher has conducted a content analysis of two international news magazines, Time and The Economist, aimed at examining the frames at four different periods of sampling; a one year period right before September 11, a one year period right after September 11, a one year period after five years of September 11 and a one year period after ten years of September 11. This study has applied a content analysis as the research methodology in collecting, coding and analyzing the data. All paragraphs pertaining to the issue during the study periods were analyzed. A total of 4,443 paragraphs was analyzed to determine the existence of frames. Findings - The researcher has found the total of ten significant frames used by both Time and The Economist in covering stories related to Islam/Muslims throughout the four periods being studied. Novelty – This study expands the research made before on the labeling of international media on Islam and terrorism in terms of the time frame, scopes of indicators and measurement as well as the types of media selected. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication The Coverage On Islam And Terrorism: A Framing Analysis Of The International News Magazines, Time And The Economist(Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, 2013) ;Sofia Hayati Yusoff ;Salleh Md HassanMohd Nizam OsmanNumerous researches have proven that Islam has been negatively portrayed by the western media for many accusations against Muslims on terrorist attacks or alleged 'terror plots' following the 911 1 incident. The media represent a deliberate and concerted effort to associate Islam with terrorism. As the world mourns the mark of the tenth year of the fateful event, we witness significant events including the electoral presidency of Barrack Obama, the Arabs spring movement and the death of Osama Bin Laden. The events have urged the researchers to uncover the patterns of the framings on Islam and its association with terrorism by the two most influential international news magazines; Time and The Economist. Using the content analysis approach, the researchers have chosen articles that place a special focus on Muslims or Islam, either directly or indirectly. The rationale for conducting quantitative content analysis is to obtain the labelling tendency and to search for any significant differences in labelling patterns between the four periods selected; one month before Sept 11, one month right after Sept 11, one month after 5 years and finally for one month 10 years after the incident. The sampling procedure for related articles in these two news magazines was based on constructive week basis. Finally, the researchers have made conclusions on the framing patterns whether Islam is still associated with terrorism after 10 years of 9/11 like it was during the most crucial period right after the incident. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Rahman ;Rosninawati HussinRosidayu SabranNot much attention has been given to Islamic films produced in Malaysia. However, the role to spread dakwah through media is an obligation. In the effort to vary the medium of da’wah, a film is seen as an influential way that can be explored as film can be an interesting tool/medium to spread da’wah, rather than through the conventional preaching, books, magazine and others.
