Publication تباين مفهوم الهوية الوطنية في الإعلام التلفيوني الفلصطيني(Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, 2016-12) ;Ihab Ahmed Awais ;Osama Kanaker ;Mahmoud AyashSujod Sameeh AwaisThe Palestinian public opinion is largely influenced by the media discourse which is linked to the political context of the country. This may be due to the nature of the media environment in Palestine where most of the media organizations are under the control of political parties. This paper is trying to draw a particular concept to clarify the implications of the most important interactions in media policies associated with the political changes led to emergence a drastically differences with general national concepts that should have a national consensus, mostly with regards to national identity. This study will look towards two of the prominent television channels namely Al-Aqsa and Palestine television’s channels and their role in shaping the Palestinian national identity. The main objective of study to identify the role of Palestinian television media coverage represented by Al-Aqsa and Palestine channels and their impact on the elements of the national identity. The study used qualitative descriptive methods which includes interviews with a number of media experts of Al Aqsa and Palestine channels. as well as analysis of secondary sources such as books, publications and related references. The findings show that political and financial factors played an important role in determining the daily media coverage of both channels. This also means both Al-Aqsa and Palestine television have varying roles in representing the elements of the Palestinian national identity. In addition, this study argues that both channels played a negative role in shaping the Palestinian unified national identity due to inconsistencies of the media policies with the aspiration of Palestinian national identity in general. The research recommends the need to determine strong media policies to commensurate with the national goal of the Palestinian community. The Palestinian channels should develop and improve the media message to counter the Israeli media campaigns which distort the truth and violates the right of the Palestinian society and their national identity.
