Kajian ini dijalankan bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti tahap kesedaran kru kabin tentang kepentingan kemahiran komunikasi secara interpersonal serta mengukur tahap keyakinan berkomunikasi mereka sewaktu bertugas. Kajian ini turut bertujuan untuk mengetahui sama ada terdapat perbezaan dapatan kajian berdasarkan tiga faktor utama iaitu jantina, tahap pendidikan dan tempoh berkhidmat. Penyelidik menggunakan pendekatan teori SERVQUAL sebagai kerangka konseptual dan reka bentuk kajian. Teori SERVQUAL digunakan kerana ia adalah teori yang sangat bertepatan dalam menilai kualiti perkhidmatan. Teori yang juga menekankan lima dimensi utama iaitu ketara, kebolehpercayaan, responsif, jaminan, dan empati dalam perkhidmatan. Model ini memberikan panduan yang teratur untuk menilai kualiti perkhidmatan dengan teliti dalam pelbagai situasi dan industri. Seramai 726 responden dipilih secara rawak bagi menjawab borang soal selidik, yang mewakili 3030 responden daripada tiga syarikat penerbangan iaitu Capital A Berhad, Malaysia Airlines Berhad dan Batik Air Malaysia. Data yang dikumpulkan dianalisis menggunakan aplikasi Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) untuk mendapatkan statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensi atau ujian-t (t-test). Dapatan kajian menjangkakan pengukuran terhadap tahap kesedaran kru kabin tentang kepentingan kemahiran dan keyakinan berkomunikasi secara interpersonal yang dapat menggambarkan tahap kepuasan dan kualiti perkhidmatan kru kabin. Selain itu, serta terdapat perbezaan dapatan kajian yang melibatkan tiga faktor utama yang berbeza iaitu jantina, tahap pendidikan dan tempoh berkhidmat.

iPad merupakan sebuah peranti yang direka hasil gabungan komputer dan tablet. Kegunaannya semakin meluas dan meliputi pelbagai urusan sama ada di pejabat dan sekolah ataupun untuk beraktiviti santai seperti bermain permainan video atau melayari internet. Peranti ini turut dijadikan medium untuk menimba ilmu di sekolah seawal tahun 2010 sebagai satu alat bantuan pembelajaran dan pengajaran di sekolah-sekolah terpilih di Malaysia. Kajian ini dijalankan untuk melihat keberkesanan penggunaan iPad dalam kalangan pelajar sekolah menengah dengan menggunakan kaedah kualitatif iaitu temubual separa struktur. Oleh kerana ini adalah kajian awal, para penyelidik hanya menemubual dua orang guru dari setiap sekolah iaitu Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Ulul Albab, Melaka dan Kolej Genius Insan, Nilai yang menggunakan iPad dalam pembelajaran dan pengajaran mereka. Antara persoalan yang akan dijawab dalam kajian ini termasuklah kebaikan dan keburukan penggunaan iPad dalam kalangan pelajar, rutin penggunaan iPad dalam pembelajaran dan pengajaran sepanjang waktu sekolah, dan cabaran menimba ilmu barakah dengan peranti teknologi komunikasi yang terkini. Artikel ini merupakan ringkasan hasil dapatan awal kajian yang masih sedang berjalan. Hasil temubual awal menunjukkan penggunaan iPad di kedua buah sekolah ini menjadikan pembelajaran lebih efektif dan memudahkan guru-guru berinteraksi untuk menyampaikan maklumat, nota dan tugasan kepada semua murid.

Campus radio or college radio is a non-commercial community-based radio, used as a training platform for university students. However, some campus radio were perceived as unproductive and managed unsystematically. Thus, leading to the campus community’s low interest in tuning in to the campus radio channel. This article addresses the challenges and measures taken in sustaining the broadcast of campus radio programmes. What kind of constraints does campus radio in Malaysia and Indonesia universities faced and the form of approaches they adopted to ensure the continuation of operation? In-depth interviews with ten members of production team across four campus radio stations in Malaysia and Indonesia were gathered. One of the key result highlights that financial constraints are central to the management of campus radio. The sense of belonging to their “alma mater‟, enticed participation among university alumni, which subsequently, contribute to the sustainability of campus radio in Malaysia and Indonesia. Programmes are mainly for generating knowledge and educational purposes. Programme content was reformed to suit funding and station promotion strategies to elevate radio listenership.

Al-Jazeera has given its estimated 35 to 45 million viewers within the Muslim world, daily news feed that stands up to its network slogan "The Opinion and the Other Opinion". The network has been the important source and for the first time, represents not only the voice of Arab region, but also the voice of Islamic world into the international news agenda. Therefore, it is vital to understand the discourse presented in the news to understand its meaning and direction. This study analyzes the news clips of Al-Jazeera English coverage of the war in Gaza which started on December 27, 2008 and ended on January 21, 2009. Analysis of the clips has been done using Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), which assumes language and social process are deeply implicated with one another Findings identified (5) distinctive discourses from the selected news clips. Among themes are "Israels are attacking Palestinian, not only Hamas", and "The Zionists keeps lying"; which interlinked as it highlighted a continuous suppression towards Palestinian by Israeli. For Al-Jazeera, this can be regarded as counter discourse to the western media reporting on the conflict.

The study aimed to reveal the extent to which news directors at the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation adhere to international media standards and its impact on the accuracy of the media news. The presence of an average level in the extent to which news directors at the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation adhere to international media standards. The existence of a correlation between the extent of the commitment of news directors in the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation to international media standards and the accuracy of the media news. The existence of statistically significant differences at the level of statistical significance (? = 0.05) in the impact of the commitment of news directors in the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation to international media standards on the accuracy of the media news due to demographic variables. In light of the results, a number of recommendations were made, most notably: the need to pay attention to training news directors in the Radio and Television Corporation, to adhere to international standards in television and radio output, to create a positive impact on the accuracy of media news.

This special issue of Communication, Media, and Its Impact in Times of Crisis brings together 15 selected articles presented at the 3rd International Conference on Islam, Media, and Communication 2021 (ICIMaC2021) which was held on 10 and 11 July. The ICIMaC2021 is co-organized by the Communication Programme and New Media Communication Program, Faculty of Leadership and Management, USIM. For this special issue, various topics are brought to light including the impact of COVID-19 on media and society, and how the Malaysian government uses social media in delivering information during the pandemic, which is deemed efficient in handling crisis communication.

Research on media representation on Islam and Muslims have been carried out widely in the post 9/11 tragedy from a cultural, religion, political and social group lens. However, this paper discusses a science fiction film, Interstellar (2014), directed by Christopher Nolan. It is a film about space exploration by a group of scientists in their quest to find a new planet for humankind to replace the earth. The film portrays scenes of the scientists travelling into places in space - the wormhole and other potential planets for a living. Apart from highlighting space and its discovery journey from the perspective of modern science, this film can also be explored from the perspective of Islam. Many scenes in the movie represent and translate what Allah SWT has thought of Muslims through verses in the al-Quran. What are the scenes, and how does it relate to verses in the Quran? This paper uses qualitative content analysis to highlight selected verses of Kauniyah (verses explaining about Allah’s creation of the universe and its system) in the al-Quran as evidence that reflects the truth of al-Quran and the Islamic teachings. The findings are highlighted based on the relationship of scenes containing this evidence in the film with the verses in the Quran and their meanings.

The article looks at the growing presence of women entrepreneurs in the Malaysian business community who are capitalising on the wide range of digital business opportunities available to them. Online advertising provides a better marketing strategy for a wide range of products that can be sourced both locally and internationally and do not require large capital, physical storefronts, and warehousing to sell. However, this article focuses on Islamic branding products that can be better advertised in Malaysia where the majority of buyers are Muslim women. Islamic branding refers to the use of symbols and values of Islam in marketing, both in traditional and new media. The article aims to show how women can establish themselves as successful entrepreneurs by advertising Islamic branding products online and exclusively on social media. Using qualitative methods, specifically semistructured interviews and thematic analyses, this study explores the experiences and perceptions of young Muslim women entrepreneurs to social media advertising. Purposive sampling is used to capture different perspectives that enrich the depth of insights gained from the data. The findings shed light on the multi-layered dynamics of social media advertising for these entrepreneurs, showing both the support it provides and the barriers they face. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the intersection of social media, entrepreneurship, and cultural identity and has implications for theory, practise, and future research endeavours in this area.

This article examines how Islam is being represented in Malaysian comedy films: Syurga Cinta/Paradise of Love (Ahmad Idham, 2009) and Ustaz, Mu Tunggu Aku Datang!/Ustaz, I’m Coming! (Pierre Andre, 2013). As one of a popular genre in film, comedy and its comical narratives has the ability to critique social, cultural and political conditions within the specific context of Malaysia. Using film narrative analysis, this study identifies that both films revolve around a similar plot of a male quest for haram (forbidden) obsessions, such as fortune or women, and a return to morality (i.e. humility and true love). As these comedies attempt to illuminate the intersection between religion and comical narrative, the way they feature the main characters are not simply as sinful or immoral. Rather, they are portrayed as misguided, but equally amusing in dealing with misfortune and wrongfulness. This article found that the central element of both films lies in its incongruity between the traditional Islamic principle and trajectories which against morality. Besides the call for morality, this article also argues that Malaysian comedy is also shaped in response to the Islamisation of the public sphere, thus, underlines the ‘re-imagine social life’ within the Malay (sian)-Muslim context.

Perdebatan dan perbincangan mengenai kandungan media sosial seperti Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp dan sebagainya dalam pengaruhnya menyebarkan kandungan seperti berita, foto dan video yang berkait dengan ekstrem dan keganasan seakan berleluasa. Kepantasan media sosial sebagai platform digital bertindak untuk menyebarluaskan kandungan berkaitan isu keganasan dari dalam dan luar negara perlu dipastikan kesahihannya. Hal ini kerana kandungan di media sosial berupaya untuk membentuk pengaruh, fikiran, dakyah dan ideologi yang tidak benar kepada pengguna terutama dalam kalangan remaja. Oleh itu, kajian ini akan membincangkan secara umum berdasarkan literatur yang lepas untuk melihat sejauh mana perbincangan mengenai isu keganasan di dalam media sosial ini telah didebatkan. Ini kerana, isu penyebaran kandungan berkaitan terrorisme di alam maya ternyata memberi impak ke atas pemikiran dan tindakan untuk meningkatkan kes-kes berkaitan keganasan sama ada secara fizikal ataupun serangan ideologi pemikiran. Selain itu, kajian ini juga telah menemubual enam pakar bidang untuk mendapatkan pengalaman dan pengetahuan mereka mengenai isu penggunaan media sosial sebagai platform penyebaran ideologi terrorisme. Selain itu, penyelidik juga cuba mendapatkan beberapa saranan dan cadangan untuk membendung isu ini terutama dalam kalangan pelajar IPT. Berdasarkan hasil kajian ini, cabaran untuk menangani isu ini sepatutnya dipikul oleh semua pihak yang berkepentingan sama ada dari pihak kerajaan dan pentadbiran, pihak berkuasa, pembuat dasar dan polisi, pihak media dan juga pengguna media sosial itu sendiri. Kesedaran, pendidikan dan pemulihan tentang isu keganasan ini perlu dipergiatkan yang mana akhirnya akan membantu untuk mencapai keamanan, keadilan dan memperkukuhkan institusi yang berkesan, bertanggungjawab dan inklusif di semua peringkat.

There is a lot of mental health cases among teenagers were reported in the mass media recently. With the on-going pressure and stressful school life, family issues and peers relationship resulted in teenagers exposed to mental health problems like depression and extreme worries. Therefore, a creative initiative needed to give awareness to the public concerning this conflict faced by teenagers. This conceptual paper shares some initiatives taken by mass media and new media in creating awareness to teenagers and the public about the importance of recognizing the symptoms and methods to handle mental health issues among teenagers. This paper will also evaluate how the initiative applied is suitable and able to attract public attention in order to lessen the stigma and prejudice towards teenagers with mental health issues. A conclusion obtained from this literature research will be presented for potential future research.

Mutakhir ini pengaruh teknologi hebat menekan pemilik dan para pengamal media untuk bergerak seiring bagi memastikan kelestarian kandungan media dan perniagaan syarikat. Jika kesan konvergen penyiaran televisyen dan jalur lebar internet telah menghapuskan sempadan antara siaran televisyen dengan internet, pengaruh teknologi digital telah mengubah siaran media khususnya terhadap penjadualan program media, pengagihan kandungan, model perniagaan dan tingkahlaku pengguna. Penggunaan teknologi digital juga mengubah tren proses penerbitan kandungan media konvensional mahupun digital. Beberapa media tempatan dilihat sudah memperkenalkannya dalam proses kerja iaitu dari sudut pemilihan isi kandungan berita, penyuntingan, pemaparan visual dan penyampaian kepada khalayak. Walau bagaimanapun, sesetengah pihak berpandangan bahawa teknologi kepintaran buatan (AI) ini mampu 'membunuh' wartawan, jurukamera, serta editor and teknologi yang meliputi keseluruhan proses menerbitan kandungan media seperti akhbar, rancangan televisyen dan video pendek dari sudut penghasilan karya asli, kreativiti dan kesan sosial kepada pengkarya dan pengamal media. Apakah pengaruh dan kesan perubahan dan perkembangan teknologi digital kepada industri media tempatan? Justeru kajian ini ingin meninjau pengaruh penggunaan teknologi digital khususnya teknologi kepintaran pembuatan (AI) dalam proses penerbitan media dalam kalangan pengamal media di syarikat media.

Like many countries, television enjoys a special interest among the society, even though information and communication technologies (ICT) have invaded the country. In 2010, the coverage of TV is about 75 percent of the population as compared to 77 percent of radio and 56 percent of newspapers. In the same year it was reported that adults spend 3.5 hours of watching TV per day as compared to 3 hours listening to radio and 2.4 hours engaging with Internet. The objectives of this paper are to examine the number of programs that were produced by TV stations in a week, and to identify the category of the programs produced by the stations. Data for this research was collected from published TV programs of the Free to Air (FTA) TV stations for a period of one week. Among others, the elements of TV program recorded were program genre, language, origin, duration of program, time of broadcast and target audience.The findings showed that each TV station has their own interest, target and focus in selecting and broadcasting TV programs to their audiences. Even though each TV station has fragmented their audience according to the language of TV programs, it is believed that the government’s effort to promote a harmony life in a multi-cultural society through TV programs is successful. The proclamation of National Drug Policy on 19 February 1983 by former Prime Minister, Y.A.B. Dato' Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad (presently Tun Dr. Mahathir) has proven that the Government is serious in combating drug abuse. This new strategy, which endorsed by the National Drug Council on 11 June 1996, were focusing more on the prevention steps, enforcement and rehabilitation efforts for those involved in this substance misuse. The drafting of the policy is seen significant in shaping Malaysian as drug-free society. Apart from regular rehabilitation approach, an alternative wield of spiritual element were applied as part of a drug treatment. Based on the scenario, this study will examine the human communication approach implemented in spiritual-based treatment centre, Pondok Remaja Inabah, Kuala Nerang, Kedah. As an independent treatment hub, they exercise Islamic-based healing method during the treatment phases. Therefore, this study aims to distinguish the effectiveness of communication process from three perspectives and indicators; intrapersonal, interpersonal and group communication. Observation via questionnaire will be conducted to obtain information and feedback from the inmates. Based on variables constructed, the research findings will describe most effective communication process during the treatment and in addition to that, remarks are expected from the inmates for future betterment of Pondok Remaja Inabah.

News coverage on Islam in newspaper publications in Malaysia has become part of Malaysian dailies since Islam is the official religion in Malaysia. A special section is allocated for Islamic teaching, forum or letter to Editors for certain days in a week. Perhaps the greatest innovation in coverage on Islam can be seen from how Malaysian reporters frame their stories, which many include the definition of religion, faith and moral choices in the secular world. News on Fatwa has, in short, become a major topic of discussion among Malaysian public once it is highlighted. It became an agenda for a period of time in most of the mainstream newspapers. This paper focuses on how the public perceived the news reporting made on fatwa in the Malaysian newspapers by looking at (i) the source of knowledge of the respondents, (ii) knowledge and understanding on fatwa, and (iii) correlation between level of education and understanding of fatwa news. Random samples of fatwa news on various issues were used as reference for the respondents. Then, a survey on 500 respondents was conducted randomly among Muslim public around Kuala Lumpur and the state of Selangor areas. This has helped in identifying the level of understanding and reactions of the public towards Fatwa issued by the National Fatwa Council of Malaysia. The findings also suggested small numbers of the news coverage on Fatwa has emphasized the significance of the Fatwa which, in the opinion of many far exceeds the important of the fatwa itself. This study may help to strategize the Fatwa Council in convincing the general public on Fatwa through news reporting because there had always been questions of reliability since there is no follow-up by the council to the public regarding Fatwa that has been issued by them.

Pihak berkuasa secara berterusan telah menangani ekstremise melalui kaedah penguatkuasaan undang-undang dan langkah-langkah reaktif. Kertas kerja ini merungkai pelaksanaan kaedah dalam menangani ekstremisme melalui persepktif naratif alternatif sebagai wadah yang perlu digerakkan seiring pendekatan reaktif (seperti rehabilitasi esktremis dan penguatkuasaan undang-undang). Kaedah naratif alternatif perlu dilihat sebagai usaha proaktif agar ekstremisme dapat ditangani dengan lebih menyeluruh. Dapatan kajian ini berasaskan temu bual mendalam yang dijalankan dengan pelbagai pihak termasuklah pakar anti-ekstremisme, ilmuwan agama, pakar bahasa, pakar tasawuf, wakil Polis Diraja Malaysia, pempengaruh media sosial, pencipta kandungan, menteri terdahulu di Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama dan wakil pertubuhan bukan kerajaan. Gabungan pelbagai perspektif ini menyumbang kepada kefahaman menyeluruh tentang pendekatan dalam talian atau digital dan secara alternatif dalam menangani ekstremisme di Malaysia. Kajian ini menggunakan analisa tematik dan tema-tema utama dari dapatan kajian menunjukkan kepentingan klasifikasi audien, pendidikan dan kesedaran seiring dengan peranan media digital.

The study aims to reveal the role that media professionals have in producing news materials on Al Hayat Radio and Jordan Radio. An analytical and descriptive approach is indicated in order to achieve the research objectives. The questionnaire was used as a data collection tool. The research included a sample of 80 directors from Radio Al-Hayat and Jordanian Radio in Jordan. The results of the research revealed that the level of the role that news managers have in the production of news materials in Radio Al-Hayat and Jordan Radio was at a high level, and there are statistically significant differences in the level of skills that news managers possess in producing news materials. Attributed to the variables of gender, age, experience and educational qualifications, and there are statistically significant differences in the level of skills between news managers in both radio stations in favor of Radio Life.

Social media is becoming the best platform for any communication during the new norm era. Nowadays, the government uses this platform in delivering messages to citizens during a crisis or disaster. Governments who are involved with a crisis such as an outbreak of the virus pandemic must have a plan to face the issue, especially a way to communicate with their people who may get a panic attack. Aims and Objectives: Thus, this study will prove about social media usage by the government in message deliveries during the COVID-19 pandemic is the best method in handling crisis communication. For this research, researchers will focus on how the Malaysian government used social media in delivering information highlighting the importance and creating awareness among the public. Methodology: Three months of content analysis data from social media platforms such as Twitter will be collected for this qualitative research. Results and Findings: The research findings show that governments used Twitter not only to deliver information but also to highlight the importance and create awareness among the public.

This study examines the use of Twitter as a communication tool by the government of Saudi Arabia in managing the COVID-19 pandemic. To identify the content used by Twitter, this study employed content analysis along with the application of the user and gratifications theory. For this qualitative research, data were collected for one month, from March 1 to March 31, 2020, when COVID-19 first hit the country. The data collected focused exclusively on the Saudi Ministry of Health (MOH), as it is the most important, prominent, and active government agency addressing this crisis through social media. The results show that the Saudi government used Twitter not only to convey information, but also to highlight its importance and raise public awareness. The results also demonstrate that the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health tweeted between six (6) and nine (9) times per day to disseminate information and knowledge about COVID-19. The Saudi Arabian government actively used Twitter as an approach in the crisis communication of this pandemic and indirectly proved that the use of social media is effective in managing crises. Government communication methods for delivering messages to the public have varied from decade to decade, but social media is now the fastest and most popular. This study is in line with the goals of managing pandemic, where researchers around the world are working to identify the government’s effective method of communication. The social media approach is not new, but it is not popular in some countries. Regardless of these two aspects, this study has helped reduce the knowledge gap in crisis communication approaches in crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Filem merupakan alat komunikasi untuk menggambarkan keadaan sebenar budaya masyarakat. Malaysia. Talentime (2009) yang merupakan filem terakhir Yasmin Ahmad dipilih sebagai bahan kajian kerana filem tersebut mempunyai naratif yang memaparkan elemen komunikasi silang budaya (KSB), di mana terdapat entiti watak-watak yang terdiri daripada pelbagai suku bangsa dan agama yang berbicara dalam pelbagai bahasa sehinggakan filem tersebut dikatakan menggunakan bahasa “rojak”. Elemen-elemen Teori Akomodasi Komunikasi (TAK) juga dapat dikenal pasti dalam filem tersebut di mana watak-watak dalam filem tersebut menggunakan cara pertuturan dan bahasa yang menggambarkan persetujuan dan persamaan dengan interlokuter atau rakan pembicara. Watak-watak dalam filem tersebut terdiri daripada pelbagai Kumpulan sosial dan mereka menyesuaikan identiti kolektif masing-masing melalui cara pertuturan, Bahasa dan mesej bukan lisan. Ada beberapa adegan dalam filem tersebut yang menggambarkan watak “converge”, iaitu menyesuaikan cara pertuturan atau bahasa agar dapat bercampur dalam “outgroup” di mana watak tersebut merasakan mereka tidak memiliki persamaan atau pertalian sosial. Begitu juga ada elemen “diverge”, di mana watak tersebut membezakan cara pertuturan atau lebih fokus kepada kandungan mesej. Akhir sekali, elemen “maintenance” yang merujuk kepada komunikator yang kekal dengan cara dan tahap komunikasi beliau dan enggan untuk menyesuaikan diri dengan orang lain. Filem Talentime ini dipilih kerana filem ini telah memenangi beberapa anugerah seperti Anugerah Filem Asia Tenggara Terbaik di Festival Antarabangsa Cinemanila 2009 dan Anugerah Lakon Layar Terbaik dan Pengarah Terbaik di Festival Filem Malaysia 2009. Kajian ini menggunakan analisis naratif dan mendapati mise en scene memaparkan elemen-elemen KSB dan akomodasi dalam filem tersebut.
