Al-Sunnah wa-Makānatuhā fī Al-Tashrī’ Al-Islāmī is written by Mustafā al-Sibā’ī, a prominent figure of Islamic scholar. This study mainly discussing about this book by using descriptive-analytical method. The result shows that this book covers almost every aspects of sunnah begins with the outlines of the historical development of sunnah until the irrefutable arguments to disprove claims from sunnah’s enemies. As this book mainly written to rebut lies and arguments from the enemies, hence this article will also focus on discussing the second section of the book, ‘Various Doubts Raised Concerning the Sunnah Over the Centuries’. This study, therefore, seeks to analyse the perspectives of the author towards the opponents of sunnah, begins with the Shī’ah and Khawārij, Mu’tazilah, orientalists until some of the contemporary writers whose reject sunnah.

The authority of Prophetic narrations definitely have been one of the most central problem discussed among scholars, even for mutawātir ḥadīth, not to mention aḥad ḥadīth which not fulfil the requirments to be considered as mutawātir. This study mainly discussing about the authority of aḥad ḥadīth based on perspectives from Mustafā Al-Sibā’ī, a prominent figure of Islamic scholars in one of his well-known book, Al-Sunnah wa-Makānatuhā fī Al-Tashrī’ Al-Islāmī. This book mainly written to rebut lies and arguments from the enemies of Sunnah. Hence this study seeks to analyse views, opinions and discussions regarding aḥad ḥadīth which mostly pointed out by Al-Sibā’ī in order to refute arguments from enemies of Sunnah, or to be exact, from those who reject the validity of aḥad ḥadīth. Thus,by using descriptive-analytical method, this article will firstly provide brief descriptions about Mustafā Al-Sibā’ī and his book before discussing throughout his writing about aḥad ḥadīth. The resultof this study hopefully may clears any misunderstanding created by Sunnah’s enemies regarding aḥad ḥadīth.

Terdapat pelbagai kajian dan hasil penulisan yang membincangkan mengenai metodologi yang digunakan oleh orientalis dalam mengkritik ḥadīth dan seterusnya bagaimana pula metodologi yang digunakan oleh cendekiawan Muslim dalam menyangkal dakwaan mereka. Salah satunya ialah hasil karya tokoh cendekiawan Islam, Mustafā al-Sibā'ī iaitu Kitab Al-Sunnah waMakānatuhā fī al-Tashrī 'al-Islāmī, atau terjemahannya, Sunnah dan Peranannya Dalam Penetapan Hukum Islam. Dalam salah satu bab di dalam kitabnya ini, Mustafā al-Sibā'ī memfokuskan hujahnya bagi menyangkal teori yang dikemukakan oleh Ignaz Goldziher, seorang tokoh orientalis yang menjadi rujukan para sarjana barat dalam mengkritik ḥadīth. Oleh itu, dalam kajian ini penulis akan menghuraikan serba sedikit berkenaan Mustafā alSibā'ī berserta dengan hasil karyanya ini dan seterusnya membincangkan dengan lebih lanjut berkaitan orientalis terutamanya Goldziher berdasarkan perspektif atau pendapat yang dikemukakan oleh Mustafā al-Sibā'ī
