The publication of this book is timely for the industry players and regulators to understand the mechanics and good practices of Shariah governance and assurance to manage the Islamic banks and financial institutions in accordance with Shariah principles or the maqasid Shariah. A leadership style that meets the interests thus ensures the sustainable development of humanity would be a key factor in the current disruptive world. Leadership in Islam prioritizes human values and that becomes a founding principle as stated in the Qur’an and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Using a descriptive method from previous studies, this study found that three issues would make the country a failed state. Prior to that, a leadership that values humanity is identified as a new approach that deserves attention as it was shown successfully through the leadership of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Such approaches were proven in the following events: 1) to make peace between communities; 2) recognizing the right to life and prohibiting murder; 3) no coercion in religion and social problems; and 4) da’wah activities which are inviting to goodness and forbidding evils. This study concludes that humane leadership that incorporates with fundamental principles of Islam while upholding the universal values of humanity should lead a new narrative in the current disruptive world.

The terminology of hasan has sparked polemics from the stand point of its definition which brings forth differences of opinion among hadith scholars. In addition to the debate on the definition of hasan which is often associated with al-Tirmidhi and al-Khattabi, other hadith scholars also use this term. One of them is al-Daraqutni. This study therefore, aims to examine the use of the term hasan according to al-Daraqutni in his work entitled al-‘Ilal al-Waridah fi al-Ahadith al-Nabawiyyah. In conducting this study, a library research method in the form of document analysis was used. The data obtained were then analyzed based on inductive and deductive methods. The findings of the study demonstrate that the term hasan applied by al-Daraqutni refers to its literal meaning that is good or fine. Apart from that, the term hasan according to him also carries the meaning of gharib. This statement is based on his commentary on certain sanad narrated individually by a single narrator; from the additional comment that only one narrator took the narration from his teacher. Thus, it can be deduced that the term hasan applied by al-Daraqutni does not deviate from the meaning of hasan assigned by some other scholars of hadith.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gums. The incidence of periodontitis is increasing all over the world. In patients with periodontitis, there is gradual destruction of the periodontal ligament and the alveolar bone, and later, in advanced stages, there is tooth loss. Different microorganisms, the host’s immune response, and various environmental factors interact in the progression of this chronic inflammatory disease. In the present review, we discuss the epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis, and complications of periodontitis. We also discuss the association of chronic inflammation found in periodontitis with various other systemic diseases, which include cardiovascular, respiratory, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, cancer, adverse pregnancy, and multiple myeloma, and also highlight microbial carcinogenesis and the microRNAs involved. The latest updates on the molecular mechanism, possible biomarkers, and treatment procedures may be beneficial for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

The microblogging site Twitter gives politicians greater autonomy and enables them to operate individually by easily communicating online and on a personal level with the public. Based on the framework of Political Discourse Analysis, this article analyses the language use on the Twitter posts of former Malaysian Prime Minister, Najib Razak – @NajibRazak. This paper attempts to discern discursive practices that may produce and reproduce unequal power relations between politicians and the public. This is done through analyses at both topical or macro level and lexical or micro level. Findings show that Najib’s tweets convey implicit common sense assumptions, which highlight a paternalistic and government-knows-best approach that is known as a common characteristic of Asian governance.

The maxillary first molar has the highest failure rate of root canal treatment, with missing canals being one of the most common causes of failure. This case illustrates the wide range of root canal anatomy in the maxillary first molar. Therefore, during endodontic care, anatomical variation should be taken into account by radiographic and clinical evaluations.

Algeria witnessed a very critical time during the French colonial period, which prompted Ibn Badis, the one called as revivifier and reformer of his era, to look for solutions to the issues of his period. Ibn Badis resorted to the holy Qurʾān and designated his life to serve the book of Allah, interpreting and contemplating it, as well as extracting and deducing all regulations and provisions, applying them to his daily life. He also ensured proper installation of verses of the Qurʾān to act as a solution to various issues, including spreading the message of Allah and informing people about Him. This article introduces Ibn Badis and shines a light on how he implemented and used his understanding of Qurʾānic verses to solve his daily life issues, specifically his journey of advocating and guiding people towards getting to know Allah. The paper employed inductive and descriptive analysis to achieve this goal and concluded that Ibn Badis is a pioneer of reform and uplifted his society using Qurʾānic verses. He was greatly interested in the advocacy aspect (getting people to know Allah) of interpreting the Qurʾān verses, where he extracted the advocacy rules, etiquettes of the advocator and then implemented them in his everyday life.
