Publication Conducting online posting activity on a social networking site (SNS) to replace traditional learner diaries(IGI Global, 2014) ;Saad N.S.M. ;Yunus M.M. ;Embi M.A. ;Mohd Yasin M.S. ;Faculty of Major Language ;Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)This case examines online posting activity by international students in Malaysia. The aim of the case is twofold, where it provides a platform for the students to practice their writing skills and a way to gather data for a bigger project, which is a research project into their English language learning experiences. The issues revolved around a string of decisions made before embarking on the case and challenges faced in running and maintaining the case. They are dissected and presented in two stages and two phases. Decisions were made and challenges were solved in line with the two aims of the case by considering extant literature and good research practice. 2014, IGI Global.5 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Development of Islamic mutual funds in Malaysia(Nova Science Publishers, Inc., 2014) ;Marzuki A. ;Worthington A.C. ;Faculty of Economics and Muamalat ;Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)Griffith UniversityIslamic mutual funds (IMFs) continue to grow as an alternative investment vehiclefor investors wishing to integrate Islamic values and secular financial objectives in theirinvestments. The most distinctive feature of IMFs lies in screening strategies based on theapplication of Shariah (Islamic law). Conventionally, this mainly involves the applicationof exclusionary screening, whereby fund managers screen out companies involved incertain activities, including riba (interest), gharar (uncertainty), and maysir (gambling),and prohibited products from their portfolios as prescribed by the Quran, Sunnah andrelated Islamic texts. The central outcome is that the managers of IMFs, unlike those ofconventional mutual funds (CMFs), necessarily access only a subset of the population ofinvestments available. This has dramatic implications for many conventional dimensionsof mutual fund behavior, including performance, the flow of funds, and the fund selectionbehavior of investors. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of thedevelopment of Islamic managed funds in Malaysia. It discusses the historical, regulatoryframework, financial reporting, benchmark indices and operational aspects of Islamicmanaged funds. 2014 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.7 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Investigating learners' awareness on grammar in communication tasks learner interactions(CRC Press, 2016) ;Baharun H. ;Zakaria A.R. ;Faculty of Major Language Studies ;Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)University of Malaya (UM)This paper reports on a study that investigates the use of communication tasks to elicit Language-Related Episodes (LREs) during learners' oral interaction. Nine language learners in groups of three participated in the study. The participants completed two meaning-focused task types (i.e., jigsaw and decision-making) during which their learner interactions were recorded. Data were examined for instances of LRE. A qualitative analysis of the data revealed that the learners produced LREs during task completion for both tasks and paid considerable attention to grammar while engaged in meaning-focused communication tasks. This suggests that such tasks can be explored in promoting grammar awareness among learners as the grammar LREs produced during task completion may create opportunities for language development among the EFL learners. Results have practical implications for language teaching, research, and syllabus design. 2016 Taylor & Francis Group, London.3 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Is there room for physiotherapy in the Malaysian school system?(Springer Singapore, 2017) ;Zakaria A.R. ;Baharun H. ;Hutagalung F.D. ;Jani S. ;Faculty of Major Language Studies ;University of Malaya (UM) ;Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)SMK Saujana UtamaThis study investigated the curriculum changes in secondary school system in Malaysia. Thirty experts in physiotherapy were identified through purposive sampling. The Delphi technique was used to build items for the questionnaire which intended to answer the research questions of the study. Findings revealed the fields of physiotherapy expected to provide career opportunities in future as agreed by the panel of experts. To ensure students are prepared to embark on the field of physiotherapy, they believed that subjects such as English language, Biology, Science, Physics, Human Movement, and Biomedical Science need to be introduced and emphasized in the secondary school curriculum. Three teaching approaches, via demonstrations, practical, and clinical practice, are deemed suitable to teach physiotherapy in secondary schools while assessment should focus on both theory and practical components. Further, the panel of experts also stressed that a specific kind of facilities are required at schools which included lecture rooms, laboratories, hydrotherapy pools, gymnasium, treatment rooms, and assessment rooms. The findings show that there is a need for the Ministry of Education (MOE) in general, and the Curriculum Development Centre (CDC) in particular, to relook at the existing secondary school curriculum and make the necessary revision should physiotherapy be introduced in the Malaysian secondary school system. Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.7 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Location-based Cryptographic Techniques: Its Protocols and Parameters(Pleiades Publishing, 2020) ;Shamsuddin N.S.M. ;Pitchay S.A. ;Islamic Science Institute ;Faculty of Science and TechnologyUniversiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM)Storing data via online increased rapidly and this massive data has become significant to be secured due to the data invasion. Hence, encryption to transmit data securely in open networks has been applied. However, this single layer of security is insufficient. Location-based cryptographic technique is proposed by adding another layer of security on top of existing encryption method. It requires location information which are latitude and longitude coordinates, time and velocity. Those parameters used to generate an additional encryption and decryption keys for location-based encryption process. Therefore, protocols are required in cryptographic techniques to ensure the security and integrity of data while transit over a network connection. This paper discusses The Geo-encryption Algorithm, Location Dependent Encryption Algorithm (LDEA), Dynamic Toleration Distance (DTD) and Timed, Efficient Stream Loss-tolerant Authentication (TESLA) as the protocols for location-based cryptographic techniques. Its parameter used in that particular protocol and the roles in some applications such as location-based security in digital cinema distribution for sending large media file to multiple theatre locations and location-based authentication in bank cloud storage for accountant access at specific location and timeframe. Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020.5
