Abstract
Aesthetics has become a part of the component of life in modern society. In the past, the main focus of dental treatments was to relieve pain and fulfilling the functional demands. However, the focus of treatment has shift nowadays towards dental aesthetics. The purpose of this study was to assess the patient’s perception and knowledge regarding cosmetic dental treatment in relation to Islamic perspective. This was a cross-sectional study that involved subjects in the range age of 19 to 60 years old. A questionnaire was developed to address the patient’s perception and knowledge with regard to cosmetic dental treatment and Islamic principles. The results showed that almost all (92% to100%) perception of the respondents’ believed that the aims of cosmetic dental treatment comprised of function, aesthetics and, aesthetic and functions with psychosocial influence. Their knowledge on cosmetic dental treatment in relation with Islamic jurisprudence was accordance to legal Islamic maxim. As a conclusion, the patient’s perception cosmetic dentistry covered all aspects of human life and their knowledge was in line with Islamic Jurisprudence.
