Beyond Maqasid Al-Shariah: An Overview Of Conceptual Transcendence Of Maqasid Thought

This paper aims to highlight on a new dawn of Maqasid thought called Maqasid al-Quran (MQ) which yet to be emerged as an independent Islamic science like its predecessor, the concept of Maqasid al-Shariah (MS). Being related, yet distinctive, Maqasid al-Quran was treated by some Muslim scholars as a next generation maqasid thought after Maqasid al-Shariah. Some contemporary scholars have categorically mentioned that the journey of Maqasid al-Shariah should continue until it reaches to Maqasid al-Quran which could have a wider scope of the methodological capacity to go beyond Islamic legal paradigm. Hence, to explore the conceptual implications of Maqasid al-Quran, this research will review some contemporary scholars’ views on the subject. This study expects to encourage a new thinking of maqasid discourse.
