Abstract

Students with different characteristic have different way of communicating style and specific emotion based on the ways they are being raised up. There are 4 domains in emotional intelligence theory which are emotional awareness, emotional management, social emotional awareness and relationship management. Among the famous and common parenting styles include authoritative, authoritarian, permissive and neglectful parenting style. This study is a cross-sectional study to determine how parenting styles of Muslim gifted and talented students in Kolej GENIUS Insan, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Nilai, Negeri Sembilan affect their Emotional Intelligence. Two questionnaires will be used in this study. The first questionnaire is Parenting Authority Questionnaire (PAQ). The second questionnaire is Emotional Intelligence Self-Assessment. The data will be analysed by using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20-32bit. This study is expected to expose the public to new knowledge and understanding of interrelationships between parenting style and its effect on emotional intelligence towards students.
