dc.description.abstract | This study examines the role of teachers as role models in shaping students' identity in Islamic schools in Malaysia and Britain. Focusing on Maktab Mahmud Alor Setar and New Horizon Community School (NHCS) in Leeds, it highlights how teachers today are responsible not only for academic instruction but also for moral and social development, which was traditionally a parental role. Using participant observation, interviews, and focus groups, the findings show that most students acknowledge the significant influence of teachers on their personal identity. The study emphasizes the importance of recruiting qualified, pious, and knowledgeable teachers in Islamic schools, as their personality, academic background, and passion directly impact students' moral development and self-identity. Differences in the process of identity formation between Malaysian and British schools are also noted, with teachers playing a key role in fostering Islamic values and akhlak (moral character). | |
