Abstract

The term Ḍabṭ refers to specific markers placed on the Quranic letters to indicate a sound or connotation of the letters such as Sukun, Mad, Tanwin, Syaddah etc. The purpose of Ḍabṭ is to ease the Quranic reciter to recite every text contained in the mushaf accurately. Since it was introduced in the middle of the first century, it has continued to expand from time to time until the present-day. The mushaf that has been transcript into Braille also is no exception. However, there are still some signs used in the regular mushaf that yet to be applied into Braille. Among the sign is the Ṣifr Mustadīr. The objective of this study is to identify the implications of the absence of such markings. The performance test method was used on study participants to obtain information which was then analyzed to achieve the objectives of the study. The findings imply that there are recitational error due to the absence of those sign. Based on this finding, discussions, conclusions and suggestions have been made aimed at ensuring the accuracy of the Braille form of the Quranic text to enable its readers to read the Quran as well as normal mushaf readers.
