Abstract
Reminiscence therapy is a counseling approach that is specifically used with the elderly population. It is used as a tools to promote self-awareness and has been found to be effective in reducing depression among elderly. Reminiscence therapy helps the elderly to gain a sense of belongingness and meaning behind their current late-life experiences. This article focuses on how reminiscene therapy can be used on the elderly population, including the various techniques that are unique in therapeutic approach. The article also discusses how reminiscene can be applied in the Malaysian context, specifically on the spiritual aspects of the reminiscence approach. It is hoped that this article provides insight on how to properly apply reminiscence therapy in Malaysian context in managing mental health issues among the elderly.
