Abstract
Ethics of society have been found to influence collaborative efforts of stakeholders which then enhance student?s performance and experience. The aim of this study is to examine the ethical precepts of an isolated mountainous community and its success in uplifting students? education. The study was undertaken in Ba? Kelalan village which is located in the northeast region of Sarawak, East Malaysia. A focus-group discussion with village heads and interviews with teachers, ex-students and current students was carried out. The transcribed materials were analyzed via constant comparison method. The findings revealed that there were several ethical precepts that forged the community spirit namely the Musang tradition of collective effort, local leadership, and teacher?s duty-bound and commitment attitude, and preservation of local identity. Other schools can draw lessons and adapt features suited to their local environment and shared value.
