dc.description.abstract	Buton Sultanate is an Islamic sultanate which was established in the 14th century in South East Sulawesi and ended in 1960. It left behind many Islamic manuscripts that were produced by scholars who were both citizens and royals and there are numerous manuscripts that have not been explored. One of the works in fields of character education based on ḥadith which has not been studied completely is Taḥsin Al-Awlad Fi Ṭā‘at Rabb al-‘Ibad written by Sulṭān Muhammad ‘Aydrus Qa‘imuddin al-Buṭuni (d.1851M), a Sulṭan and also a Sufi practitioner in Buton, who mostly wrote about character education in his works. Thus, the purpose of this study is to understand the nature of this works, its content and purpose of writing; which are to identify the principles and concepts of character education in Islam in that text as well as to produce a critical edition and takhrij the ḥadith. In general, this study is a qualitative methodology that utilize philology (tahqiq) method to ensure the authenticity of texts and to analyse the text or content of manuscript. Apart from that, takhrij ḥadith method was used to determine the status and level of ḥadith that was stated, as well as the method of content analysis and historical to know the texts importance and its origin. The findings signify that the manuscript author possesses profound knowledge and deep understanding of hadith and tasawwuf, particularly in the discourse related to character education in Islam. His mastery in this field is evident through his distinctive writing style. This research also undertakes a critical edition editing process aimed at facilitating access for readers and enriching the local scholarly collection to contribute to the development of character education systems in Islam in the Malay world.
