Abstract
The sacred texts that lasted over thousand years hand were contributed in producing a sort of text
that contains great of literature and culture component. This remarkable feature thus became the
underlying reason that gained the interest among the scholars worldwide to pursue reviewing and
analyzing this genre. Moreover, the stylistic device in this genre also poses a greater difficulty
compared to the others that just confined to only textual and descriptive aspect of the writing.
Thus, this study will explore the concept of translatability by focusing on the translation of two
scriptures, the Bible and the Quran. Through the descriptive content analysis, the study will attempt to clarify an overview of the existing phenomena into two main categories, namely linguistic
translatability and cultural translatability. The findings in this study reveal the core factor that
contributed is the large number of audience as well as the literature value itself. It is observed that
the underlying problem in the translation of the Quran and Bible arises as the interpretation of the
meaning is broad and wide as it is not confined to just one meaning. This wide-ranging scope
require the translator to be able to identifying the extend and boundaries of the translation allowed
in interpreting the meaning of the scriptures as well as the consequences involve that may change
and alter the meaning of the scripture itself. The implications of this study have the potential to
serve as a guide, especially regarding on the challenges and significantities of the translatability
and untranslatabilty phenomena in the religious texts of the Bible and the Quran.
