Long -distance marriage (PJJ) means a pattern of relationship that is characterized byless frequent encounters between husband and wife and usually the couple lives in different geographical locations with periods of distance from each other. The Ministry of Women Development and Community Welfare recorded an increase in family structure in long -distance marriages which is increasingly dominating the conventional family model, and even now long -distance relationships are an increasingly common form of bonding in society. This practice has become a phenomenon that needs to be given attention because studies show that PJJ contributes to the number of divorce cases in Malaysia. Thus the main objective of this article is to look at the Islamic view on the practice of PJJ according to past and contemporary scholars in terms of the period allowed to stay away and the reasons allowed to stay away. The study will also analyze the legal provisions related to PJJ found in the Islamic Family Law Act/Enactment in Malaysia. The method used is qualitatively involving library research. The data obtained were analyzed by content analysis as well as inductive and deductive. The findings of the study show that there are views of past and contemporary scholars related to PJJ that are very significant to be used as a guide. Interestingly, there are also provisions of Islamic family law to control the practice of PJJ, especially among the Muslim community as in Act 303, the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984 Part V-Dissolution of Marriage, Section 52 which is an order to dissolve a marriage or for fasakh, Section 48 of the Islamic Family Law (State of Selangor) Enactment 2003 as well as the recitation of taklik read by the husband after the marriage contract for each state in Malaysia. The study suggests some principles that need to be taken care of by husbands and wives in undergoing PJJ in order to create a prosperous and harmonious PJJ.en_US
