Abstract
The use of mobile technologies in education is rapidly increasing. The "Greater Chinese" mobile application has been adopted as an intervention to enhance Chinese language learning. The "Greater Chinese" application is a modern Chinese language learning kit which provides a variety of features to enhance the learning experience and make Chinese language learning easier and more enjoyable. This application has provided a variety of learning features for listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The objective of this project is to foster students' attitudes, motivation and interest towards learning Chinese language. 23 students Chinese Language Level 1 (LAC 100) from Universiti Sains Malaysia Engineering campus participated in an open-ended survey before the intervention. Furthermore, interviews were conducted with four students as informants to acquire information before and after the intervention. After 10 weeks intervention, the data were collected using an open-ended survey and semi structured interview. It found that the "Greater Chinese" mobile application as self-access learning has fulfilled students' VARK learning styles. Consequently, students have provided positive feedback and expressed their great satisfaction with the app's various features that able to improve and enhance their Chinese language skills. Overall, the project has a significant impact on students' attitudes, motivation and interest in learning Chinese language. The growing demand for evolving and conveniently accessible language learning aids, together with technological improvements, appears to be driving a promising future for mobile-assisted language learning applications in higher education as language learning support resources.
