Abstract

This quantitative study discusses the level of awareness of human rights and self-confidence among students of Sultan Qaboos University. The problem of the study is the lack of a culture of human rights in Omani society in general, and students in particular. At the same time, human rights were absent from programs and curricula at all levels of education, as stated by the results of several studies. The objectives of the study; is to diagnose the degree of human rights’ awareness, and also the degree of self-confidence among Sultan Qaboos University students at the Sultanate of Oman. The researcher adopted the descriptive analytical method. The sample of the study reached (500) students out of the study population of (15) thousand students. The researcher prepared two scales for the study. The first scale to measure the human rights awareness, which included three components: emotional, cognitive and skill. The second scale to measures the self-confidence among students that include four components: self-reliance, decision-making, social aspects and academic aspects. The validity and reliability of the two scales were confirmed after they were presented to arbitrators, and through the survey study. The findings revealed that the degree of awareness of human rights was moderate, and that the level of self-confidence among the students was also moderate.
