Abstract
Collocation is a linguistic phenomenon that occurs in human language, and it is not limited to any particular language. In Arabic, especially writing novels or short stories contain many examples of collocations. Novelists use collocations a lot in their literary writing to influence the reader and add detail to the narrative of the story, because collocations contribute to the creation of connections and continuity in the text so that the novel is more organized and coherent. Therefore, this study aims to determine the collocation found in the novel "al-Liṣ wal Kilāb" by Naguib Mahfouz, based on Ghazala's theory (2004). In addition, this study also analyzes the rammatical collocation in the novel "al-Liṣ wal Kilāb" and describes the Mona Baker’s (1997) translation method and its effectiveness in conveying the meaning of the collocation. A qualitative descriptive approach is used, which is through the collection, analysis and interpretation of data in the novel "al-Liṣ wal Kilāb" and its Malay translation "Khianat". This study concludes that the strategy of translating using the paraphrase method is a successful strategy, unlike other strategies in translating grammatical collocations. This strategy is very effective in maintaining the meaning that the novelist wants to convey by using grammatical collocation.
