This study examines the translation strategies of dubbing of non-material cultural elements from Malay to Arabic in animated series “Upin and Ipin”. This study aims to identify the categories of non-material cultural elements in the animated series “Upin and Ipin” based on categories of culture proposed by Ghazala, as well as to reveal the classification of source language-oriented (SL Oriented) and target language-oriented (TL Oriented) strategies in translating the non-material cultural elements in the animated series "Upin and Ipin" dubbed from the Malay language into Arabic based on Pedersen's theory (2011). This study employs a qualitative descriptive method. The data of this study contain words extracted from the animated series “Upin and Ipin” and the Arabic dubbing. The classification of cultural elements proposed by Ghazala (2015) was used as a basis for finding and extracting non material cultural elements from the novel. A total of 47 words and phrases that show non material cultural elements are identified in the animated series. The dubbed words are identified and analyzed to find out the strategy of non-material cultural elements based on source language oriented and target language-oriented strategies by Pedersen. The analysis shows that the strategy of target language-oriented strategies is applied more than source language-oriented strategies. This maybe because the translator found that there are many suitable matches in Malay and Arabic cultural elements. It is hoped that this study will make a fruitful contribution to the development of Malay-Arabic translation particularly in dubbing field.
