This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the role of Islamic education teachers in developing citizenship values and its relationship to the level of social responsibility of students in the post-basic education stage (grades 11-12) in the Sultanate of Oman. To achieve this goal, tools have been developed to collect quantitative and qualitative data. A questionnaire was distributed to collect quantitative data to measure the level of effectiveness of the Islamic education teachers’ roles in developing citizenship values from the viewpoint of their supervisors while another questionnaire to measure the level of social responsibility of students from the point of view of Islamic education teachers. A total of 152 pioneer teachers and supervisors of an Islamic education course and 453 Islamic education teachers from all governorates of the Sultanate participated in filling out the questionnaire. Moreover, a total of six interviews were carried out with pioneer teachers and supervisors to provide qualitative data. The results were processed by calculating the arithmetic means and standard deviations. Further, the Pearson correlation coefficient was used. The study found that the effectiveness of Islamic education teachers’ roles in developing citizenship values among their students in post-basic education schools from the point of view of supervisors and early teachers was at a high level. The study also revealed several challenges that face Islamic education teachers in order to fulfill their roles to develop students’ citizenship values. The challenges related to the negative influence of the media were among the most prominent challenges. The study also concluded that the social responsibility of students in post-basic education schools from the viewpoint of Islamic education teachers is at an intermediate level. The results also revealed that the relationship between the level of effectiveness of the role of Islamic education teachers in developing citizenship values and the level of social responsibility of students in post-basic education schools in the Sultanate of Oman came to a weak degree.The study recommended the importance of including practical topics in the school curriculum through which the student acquires the values of citizenship, and the importance of exemplary teacher with empathy on students’ rehabilitation and training. These include the treatment of the phenomenon of impaired social responsibility and the development of responsible behavior among students, and concern for young people in the post-basic education stage, understanding their needs, and directing their energies towards contribution to strengthen the cultivation of a good citizen. Lastly, it is to emphasize the importance of the integration of the various community education institutions applying the values of citizenship and the development of social responsibility among students.
