Work, hobbies, and self-care all suffer as a result of these injuries. Furthermore, amputations of the extremities may have psychosocial consequences for the patient. Amputations of the hand, like all amputations, are classified according to the anatomic level at which they occur. The extent of hand amputation has implications for treatment as well as the degree and duration of functional impairment.
