Translators have to face many challenges and difficulties in producing high-quality target works on par with the source's work. One of the important points in translation is that the translator needs to emphasize on the importance of selecting matching meaning, because the aspect of lexical of a word is different when used in the context of different situations. The meaning of a word is not only affected by its position in a sentence but also depends on the field of knowledge that uses the phrase or the word. Thus, this paper analyzes the matching word for al-khianah in the Malay translation in the novel al-Liss wa al-Kilab by Naguib Mahfouz. This analysis benefits from the Vinay & Darbelnet translation procedure. It is found that the word al-khianah and its derivation are translated with several meanings that correspond to the context of the target language (Malay).
