However, the content of this board marker is stated to contain hazardous chemicals, namely VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) which gives a distinctive aroma that is quite pungent if inhaled. The danger of inhaling VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) vapors, even in small amounts, can have adverse effects on health, such as irritation to the eyes, nose, and throat, headache or dizziness, loss of coordination, nausea, damage to the liver, kidneys and central nervous system. This research aims to utilize natural ingredients, namely Averrhoa bilimbi leaves and Solanum melongena peels to replace board marker inks which contain hazardous materials to produce board markers with a non-stinging aroma and are safe for health. Averrhoa bilimbi leaves and Solanum melongena peels contain compounds also needed for making marker ink, namely tannins and anthocyanins. Tannins and anthocyanins are compounds that produce black, purple, brown and other dark colours. The use of Averrhoa bilimbi leaves and Solanum melongena peels as basic materials for making ink provides new hope in processing this waste, namely as a source of new functional materials.
