Publication Bibliometric Analysis of Research on Cosmetic Products: Halal Cosmetics as an Emerging Research Area(IIUM Press, 2023) ;Nurul Izzati Bahrin ;Khairul Akmaliah Adham ;Nur Sa’adah Muhamad ;Alina Abdul RahimAzreen Jihan Che Mohd HashimThe cosmetics industry is one of the most lucrative and high-growing industries that are driven by science and innovation. However, there is a lack of studies that analyze scholarly articles on cosmetic products. This study attempts to bridge this gap by reviewing the existing literature, with the specific purpose to explore the trends in the publications and themes related to research on cosmetic products. To achieve this purpose, a bibliometric analysis was conducted using the R application and R-based tools. The research retrieved 613 articles on the Scopus database that used the term ‘cosmetic products’ in their titles. The study reveals that the number of articles published on the topic of cosmetic products is increasing. Two main keywords, paraben, and high-performance liquid chromatography, are the most recurring themes. Halal cosmetics were identified as an emerging research area. In relation to this context, six major topics were identified, which are: regulations for halal certification of halal cosmetics, organization control, attributes of halal cosmetics, consumer purchase, and purchase intention. Overall, this bibliometric analysis provides essential information on the current trends and themes, and provides recommendations for future research on cosmetic products. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Diagnosing a Halal Certification System for Cosmetics: The Viable System Model Approach(Springer Link, 2023) ;Khairul Akmaliah Adham ;Nur Sa’adah Muhamad ;Adlin MasoodAlina Abdul RahimThe global halal cosmetics industry is a lucrative market worth US$ 27.31 billion in 2021, and its value is expected to grow to US$ 54 billion by 2027. However, the overall cosmetics industry is monopolized by multinational companies, and many products have no halal certification, an assurance system for certifying a particular product as permissible and good for Muslims to use. Among Muslim consumers, the level of awareness about halal cosmetics is low in comparison to their awareness of halal food. These low levels of uptake by cosmetics manufacturers and consumer awareness must be addressed, especially since cosmetics are utilized in everyday Muslim life. In addressing these issues, a comprehensive understanding is needed of the halal ecosystem for cosmetics. An initial step in this direction would be to study the system of halal certification for cosmetics. Utilizing the Viable System Model (VSM) as the framework, this study diagnosed the halal certification system for cosmetics in Malaysia. This study gathered data from interviews with representatives from institutions and departments directly involved in the halal certification system. The halal certification system for cosmetics in Malaysia was found to already have established some elements of viability. However, there is neither a dedicated policy for the development of halal cosmetics nor a comprehensive legal framework governing the development of halal cosmetics and its usage. There are also some missing links related to the monitoring function and among the operating units. This understanding paves the way for developing a viable certification system for halal cosmetics in Malaysia and worldwide - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Dimensi Interaksi Penyedia-penerima Dalam Perkhidmatan Sokongan Sosial Untuk Pembangunan Syarikat PKS: Kajian Kes Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA)(UKM Press, 2020) ;Khairul Akmaliah Adham ;Shahrizin Abdul SarhadatRosmah Mat IsaService interactions between providers and recipients have been widely discussed in previous studies. However, there is a dearth of research on interactions in the context of social service that support empowerment of marginalized groups in society. This gap must be addressed particularly when such service is taxpayer-funded that support poverty alleviation and increased inclusiveness for all in society. Hence, the objective of this study is to identify the dimensions of provider-recipient interaction in social service provided by the People’s Trust Council (MARA), the largest social organization in Malaysia. To achieve the objective of the study, the study adopted a triadic qualitative research methodology which involved interviews of both service providers and service recipients. The study’s research framework is built on the perspectives of service management, social organization and organizational life cycle model that emphasize the need for active interactions between providers and recipients to ensure effective delivery of service. The study identified fourteen dimensions of interaction in social service that support both development of SMEs and personal experience and development of knowledge of the service provider side. The findings of this study contribute to service management theory in the context of social service by emphasizing the development of SMEs as a process that should be supported by symbiotic provider-recipient interactions that evolve in line with the life cycle of the companies to ensure a more robust firm development. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Evolution Of The Malaysian Halal Certification System: The Viable System Model As The Diagnostic Framework(UKM Press, 2022) ;Khairul Akmaliah Adham ;Alina Abdul Rahim ;Nur Sa’adah Muhamad ;Adlin MasoodMohd Fuaad SaidAs a Muslim-majority country, Malaysia has a responsibility to fulfil the needs of Muslim citizens to practise their religion. Therefore, the Malaysian halal certification system needs to be viable, i.e., self-sufficient within its environment. The extant literature has explained the elements of viable systems but placed less emphasis on how systems develop into viability. This study aims to bridge this gap by using the Viable System Model to diagnose the globally recognised Malaysian halal certification system as the system-in-focus. This qualitative study gathered data mainly from interviews with 20 executives from relevant institutions with direct involvement in the system’s implementation. The findings of the study provide insights into the development milestones of a system with elements of viability. Among others, this development was found to happen in stages that are marked by crises and corresponding actions by the respective authorities. Suggestions for the system’s viability are provided. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Extending The Conversation About Service Co-creation: Integration Of Principles Of Al-bay’(IIUM Press, 2022) ;Khairul Akmaliah Adham ;Khairunnisa Abd Samad ;Nur Sa’adah Muhamad ;Syadiyah Abdul Shukor ;Adlin MasoodMohd Fuaad SaidLiterature on service management and marketing suggests that service co-creation, or the process of active involvement between providers and consumers of a service, contributes to an enhanced service experience and offers competitive advantage to organizations. Such ideal conditions, however, are not often present in certain situations, particularly due to information asymmetry issues prevalent in many types of services, given the knowledge-intensive nature of these interactions. This problem is exacerbated in less-developed economic systems and among less savvy consumers. This article extends the discussion of service co-creation by proposing integration of the al-bay’ (business exchange) principles based on the Islamic concept of transactions. This conceptual article is designed as a theory synthesis paper developed by synthesizing the main principles of al-bay’ and the service co-creation. Observing the fundamentals of al-bay’ overcomes information asymmetry related issues in service dealings, ensures that justice is achieved and fosters trust-based relationships among contracting parties. This conceptual article extends the discussion of service co-creation that typically highlights the provider-customer interaction. The integrated framework serves as a normative model that could guide service providers and businesses to go beyond generating positive participant experiences by protecting the stakeholders in their particular environments. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Familiness In Family Business: A Bibliometric Analysis(USIM Press, 2023) ;Nadiah Mahmad NasirKhairul Akmaliah AdhamFamily businesses have been ranked as among the top contributors to the overall global revenue. These firms are unique due to the embeddedness of family elements in their operation. The involvement of family members in the management and operation of such organizations is termed "familiness". Scholars have proposed familiness as a unique resource for family businesses, which can be leveraged by top management to gain a competitive advantage. However, thus far, the discussion on the concept of familiness has lacked a systematic and bird-eye review perspective, which has hindered understanding of the overall body of knowledge. To bridge this gap, a bibliometric analysis was employed to analyse the patterns and trends in past studies on familiness. The dataset consists of 149 articles retrieved from the SCOPUS database and imported into the Biblioshiny interface using the Bibliometrix R package. Analysis showed that familiness studies are growing and familiness concept is developing. Ten themes related to the familiness were identified, with the major ones include the development of the familiness concept, attributes and characteristics of a family business, and concerns for organizational growth and continuity. The findings of this bibliometric study, which is the first performed on the topic of familiness, offer recommendations for future research to further explore the role of familiness in facilitating family businesses’ strategic imperatives, such as internationalisation efforts, in ensuring the continuity of these firms across generations. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Majpadu: Bracing For The Future(SAGE, 2021) ;Khairul Akmaliah Adham ;Nur Sa’adah Muhamad ;Mohd Fuaad Said ;Nadiah Mahmad NasirNur Suryana MuhamadMajpadu Bricks Sdn. Bhd. was a Malaysian company incorporated in 1996. Majpadu’s business was in manufacturing and supplying compressed clay bricks, known as dry pressed earth brick (DPEB), a type of bricks manufactured using high-density compression technology. Unlike other bricks that were widely available in the market (also known as ordinary baked bricks), Majpadu’s bricks were not ‘fired’ in kilns; as such, DPEB was claimed to be more eco-friendly, cooler in temperature and yet very durable. Majpadu’s expertise was within the engineering process as well as the technical knowledge of DPEB. Apart from its main business, it also offered consultancy services to the industry. Over the years, Majpadu saw the company face several internal and external circumstances that affected its bottom line. By early 2017, the situation had become more serious, forcing Mr Zaki Hayat, the Managing Director of Majpadu, to implement a strategy to tackle the problems faced by the company. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Mapping Four Decades of Appropriate Technology Research: A Bibliometric Analysis From 1973 To 2021(UTM Press, 2023) ;Saida Farhanah SarkamKhairul Akmaliah AdhamAppropriate technology is a highly adaptable, simple, and user-friendly technology that utilises local resources designed for use in a specific community at a particular point in time. The technology is a crucial resource for marginalised groups in solving their everyday problems in the most economical way, which also have positive impact for their social life and environment. However, thus far, there is a lack of research that systematically reviews the patterns of scientific studies inherent in the body of knowledge of appropriate technology. Such review is needed to diagnose the current knowledge about appropriate technology. The purpose of the study is to examine the publication trends, collaborative structures, and central themes in appropriate technology studies. To achieve this objective, this study utilised a bibliometric analysis using the bibliometrix R-package software. The result highlighted three main themes in appropriate technology studies, which are developing countries, technology transfer, and sustainable development. This understanding forms the foundation towards greater understanding and applications of appropriate technologies to empower and improve overall quality of life in the society, especially in developing countries. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
