Publication Internationalisation and Its Implications for Intercultural Maturity among Academic Staff: A Case Study.(Elsevier Science Bv, 2011) ;Mustafa, J ;Sulehan, J ;Pawanteh, L ;Abdullah, S ;Basri, H ;Muchtar, A ;Mastor, KA ;Abd Ghani, ZAxel, HThe process of internationalisation can in many ways assist staff in being interculturally matured through prolong and accumulative intercultural communication experiences. Staff may undergo a gradual transformation towards being interculturally matured - thus the emergence of an intercultural personhood. Intercultural personhood coined by Kim (2008), describes individuals who move beyond the bounds of their own cultural beings and heritage to accept both their formal cultural identity and host identity. This paper explores an internationalisation project between two universities namely Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) in Germany and how this project has internationalised staff and altogether making them more interculturally matured. The findings explain the cycle of staff who initially practice only one culture, communicates with the environment, co-evolves in the new environment thus illustrating identity changes through their live experiences to become persons with multicultural traits. Publication Pembentukan Model Toleransi Beragama Belia Pelbagai Etnik di Malaysia(Penerbit Univ Kebangsaan Malaysia, 2019) ;Idris, F ;Muda, KMastor, KAThe purpose of this paper is to study the development of religious tolerance model among multi-ethnic youths in Malaysia. A few constructs are identified to develop religious tolerance model through past researchs and theory. The samples consist of 500 youths among Malay, Chinese and Indian from five different states in Malaysia: Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Perak and Johor. Data were collected using Socio-religious tolerance questionnaire and the development model is based on planned behaviour theory. The data of validity and reliability are determined by pilot test and Cronbach Alpha for every item and construct. Data were analyses in descriptive and statistical inference, which is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is used in develop religious tolerance model fit. Before data was analysed, the data will go through to Confirmation Factor Analysis (CFA) to make sure the data is reliable to use and can proceed to measurement and structural model. The results show that religious tolerance model is fit when some items and constructs are deleted. The religious tolerance model shows that perception and attitude contribute to religious tolerance behaviour. However, both of these two factors only contribute to 41% towards respondents' religious tolerance behaviour. This findings indicate that, other than attitude and perception factors, there are others factor need to identify in contribute to religious tolerance behaviour. The implications of this study, Malaysians need to be exposed thoroughly to the association and interaction between people of other faiths or ethnics. Bad attitudes such as prejudice, stereotype, prejudice, racism, discrimination and ethnocentrism should be avoided to keep harmony living. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Personality Traits Orientation of University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and UKM - University Duisburg-Essen (UDE) Engineering Students(Elsevier Science Bv, 2011) ;Mastor, KA ;Sulehan, J ;Mustafa, J ;Pawanteh, L ;Basri, H ;Abdullah, S ;Mokthtar, A ;Abd Ghani, ZAxel, HThe study aims to investigate the personality trait orientation of engineering students at UKM, alumni and the current students participating in the UKM-UDE double degree program. It is hypothesized that personality trait profile might be different between these respondents due to different academic, social and cultural background the students experienced. A total number of 54 respondents (19 alumni, 12 current students and 23 potential UKM engineering students) participated in the study. The 44 Big Five Inventory (John et al, 1991) was used to assess the personality profile. Data analyzed indicated some significant differences as expected. The current UKM-UDE engineering students were high on Neuroticism than those of UKM engineering students and UKM-UDE alumni. The alumni and current UKM-UDE students scored lower on Extraversion compared to the current local UKM engineering students. Current and the alumni of the UKM-UDE students scored higher on Openness than the current UKM engineering students. Overall findings suggest that environmental and socio-cultural factor play important role in the development of personal characteristics. Implications of the study on the benefits of the student mobility and exchange program were also discussed. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
