The aspect of equivalence is important in translation in which the main priority lies in acquiring the closest possible match to the source text message and the effect it bears on the target text. However, an absolute equivalence is deemed as nearly impossible to implement interchangeably between different language boundaries due to linguistic and cultural aspects as resisting factors. To address this challenge, this study explores the Arabic novel entitled “Aulad Haratina’ and its translation into Malay entitled “Anak-Anak di Lorong Kami” by focusing on emotional expressions dialogues within part one. Exceptional care needs to be assigned to translations within literature context especially those laden with emotional expression dialogues. This is due to the complexity in channelling the emotional descriptions and the essence implied by the original author (source text) into the target language. This study focuses on analysing equivalence in translating Arabic emotional expression into Malay language as well as analysing the translation of the dialogues based on Vinay and Darbelnet’s (1958/1995) translation methods. Additionally, this study employs the translation techniques for emotional expressions based on the Vinay and Darbelnet translation approach. Through this research, it is expected to reveal the extent of pragmatic equivalence achieved in the translated emotional expression, as well as to understand the strategies applied in the translation process. Through qualitative means, this research employs content analysis techniquesfor gathering information. This research adopts the theory of translation pragmatics equivalence in translation by Mona Baker (1992). The data are then analysed descriptively. The result of the study shows that both the message and effect in the translated text should be aligned with the message and effect in the source text in which the ultimate target is conveying the original author intended emotions.
