In 2011, the Arab world had become the centre of attention once again after the emergence of the so-called ‘Arab Spring’ in December 2010. This historical event in the modern history of the Arab region has brought significant social and political reform to the Arab world. The wave of Arab uprising begins in Tunisia at the end of 2010, rapidly separated into other neighbouring countries such as Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Bahrain, and Sudan. Since the early stage of protest, which mainly participated by locals, mass media has comprehensively reported this historical event, which brought down many Arab leaders in power for decades. Thus, Arab Spring has become the headline of many international media outlets, and the media are still discussing the significant impact of the event until now. Hence, the main objective of the study is to examine the event's Arabic online news discourse by focusing on the keywords and prominent social actors in the news reports surrounding the Arab Spring. This will indicate what has been included and excluded or highlighted and marginalised in the news coverage. The data is consist of Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) online news published by four prominent news outlets namely with different origin and background: Al-Arabia of Saudi Arabia, Al-Jazeera of Qatar, BBC Arabic of the UK and CNN of the USA. These well-established news outlets were selected for their comprehensive international coverage aims at various Arabic readers worldwide. The study employs corpus linguistics analytical tools by using corpus data mining software ‘AntConc 3.4’. Then, the quantitative results of corpus data will be analysed using a qualitative approach based on the textual-oriented Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) of Fairclough (1992) and Wodak (2001). The result shows that news coverage of the event has highlighted several keywords that indicate the main social actors and main social events of the Arab Spring. These keywords are the shared command features among the news outlets, although each outlet portraying them is significantly different. Finally, the article presents suggestions for other related studies in the future.

Ketinggian dan keindahan estetika hadis Nabi SAW dan penyampaiannya yang bervariasi samada dalam genre kata-kata hikmah, hukum hakam, nasihat, mau’izah, peringatan dan pesanan yang dibentuk dari pelbagai nilai retorik yang indah, halus, lunak dan cantik. Susunan bahasa yang halus dan berdaya penghayatan ekstrem yang digunakan oleh Nabi dalam mengetengahkan budaya penyampaian berbentuk penceritaan yang variasi seperti: imbasan, pemerian, dialog, al-amthal, perumpamaan dan perbandingan serta monolog. Penceritaan ini terhasil dari gaya penyampaian yang terbina dari teknik-teknik yang digunakan secara lunak, halus dan indah agar inti pati penyampaian dapat mencapai maksud yang tersurat dan tersirat kepada pendengar. Dengan demikian, kajian ini mengenal pasti kaedah dan reka bentuk penyampaian yang digunakan oleh Nabi SAW dalam hadis naratif Sahih al-Bukhari untuk membangunkan satu model penulisan prosa sastera yang inklusif. Kajian ini adalah kajian kualitatif yang menggunakan kaedah deskriptif berdasarkan teori adaptasi Reasons, Examples, Names, Numbers, Senses (RENNS) yang diterjemahkan sebagai (Faktor- Contoh- Watak- Bilangan dan Deria) untuk membentuk lengkuk naratif yang didasari permulaan- kemuncak- mendatar. Hasil analisis bentuk penyampaian kandungan hadis naratif akan dibentuk menjadi satu model teknik penceritaan yang inklusif yang sesuai untuk semua lapisan masyarakat. Model ini diperkenalkan sebagai model fundamental teknik penceritaan hadis naratif yang bertujuan memberi panduan penulisan kepada umum.

Kajian ini bertujuan mengenal pasti kepelbagaian teknik retorik penceritaan dalam hadis naratif Sahih al-Bukhari yang diriwayatkan oleh tiga perawi terpilih sebagai data primer kajian iaitu: Aisyah binti Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, Abdullah bin Abbas dan Anas bin Malik. Kajian ini adalah kajian kualitatif yang menggunakan pendekatan analisis deskriptif untuk menganalisis hadis-hadis naratif yang menggunakan pelbagai teknik retorik penceritaan seperti: teknik pemerian, teknik dialog, teknik pesanan dan teknik perulangan yang terdapat dalam hadis naratif Sahih al-Bukhari. Analisis ini berasaskan tema periwayatan yang diriwayatkan oleh perawi pilihan hadis tersebut, iaitu dengan membahaskan variasi tema yang telah mempengaruhi dan membentuk teknik penceritaan dalam hadis yang diriwayatkan oleh mereka. Kajian ini telah merumuskan bahawa hadis naratif Sahih al-Bukhari banyak menggunakan teknik-teknik retorik penceritaan pemerian, dialog, perulangan, dan al-amthal. Kajian juga mendapati bahawa tiga teknik penceritaan iaitu teknik dialog, teknik pemerian dan teknik pesanan telah mendominasi dalam periwayatan hadis oleh ketiga-tiga perawi pilihan, manakala perawi Aisyah telah mendahului perawi-perawi lain dalam periwayatan hadis teknik dialog dan pemerian.

This study addresses the concept of “Barakah” as mentioned in the Quran (7:96) for the purpose of analyzing discussions on the etymology of the word among Arab scholars, as well as looking at their differences in views regarding its meanings, before comparing them with its meanings in Malay language as translated by the scholars. As a matter of fact, the concept of “Barakah” and its meaning have been discussed recently by countless individuals from both academic and administrative staffs at the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) in an attempt to interpret its concept as a main foundation to achieve the university’s aspirations of 2035. It is hoped that by 2035 the university will be able to produce highly educated students whose characters are in line with the “Barakah” concept. However, to find the meaning of “Barakah” precisely as comply with its meaning in the Quran requires exploring and looking at its interpretations addressed by Arab scholars especially the Arab Linguists to understand the most correct meaning of the word in its literal and practical ways. Therefore, this study aims to give a clear picture to the readers in understanding the meanings of “Barakah” through a comprehensive analysis that refers to the most important sources and references in Arabic language. The study also suggested some alternatives for the translation of its meanings in Malay language and explained the best solutions to cope with the differences in opinions given by Arab and Malay scholars regarding its meaning. This is a qualitative study using descriptive approach in outlining the discussions of the scholars, and in analysing the data by adopting critical comparative method for fair consideration and accuracy purposes. Hopefully, this study will pave the way for the readers to understand the meaning of the word “Barakah” in Arabic and Malay languages ​​and perceive its importance to work according to its meaning and subsequently helping the university to achieve its vision of 2035.
