Abstract

The importance of this study stems from the role played by satellite news channels in influencing the attitudes and behavior of the Palestinian elites towards the media, a group that has significant influence in their environment. This study, which is primarily related to Palestinian media affairs, aims to shed light on the motives of the Palestinian elites (political, media, and academic) for relying on satellite news channels and the impact of those motives on the formation of their attitudes towards Palestinian issues, by indicating the extent of the elites' reliance on satellite news channels and their motives for doing so. Therefore, the study aims to test the extent to which the Palestinian elites are exposed to satellite news channels, compared to other media outlets, and to determine their level of dependence on them as sources of information, as well as the impact of this dependence on the formation of their attitudes towards Palestinian issues. The study concluded that: There is a relationship between the motives related to understanding, guidance, and entertainment among the Palestinian elites for their reliance on satellite news channels and the attitudes that have formed in them towards the Palestinian issue at a significance level of (0.050), where the guidance factor has the highest impact (R2 = 24.9%). There is a high degree of reliance by the Palestinian elites on satellite news channels, with satellite channel viewership ranking third among various media outlets at a rate of (57%), while news came in first place in terms of importance.
