Publication Categories of Players in Halal Cosmetic Value Chain: Preliminary Findings(Faculty of Leadership & Management, 2024) ;Nadiah Mahmad NasirKhairul Akmaliah AdhamThe global halal cosmetics industry is lucrative and valued USD 9637.6 million in 2022 and expected to grow further to USD 12220 million by 2030. This growth is attributed to the increasing numbers of the population of affluent Muslims. However, past studies revealed the lack of knowledge of consumers on the industry practices, on the ingredients in cosmetics products, and on the rules of permissibility of cosmetics. In such a situation, the consumers often fall prey to fraudulent and harmful cosmetics products. This lack of knowledge is contributed by the complexity of the cosmetics value chain, in which most times the activities within the value chain remain hidden from the public view. A first step toward resolving these issues is to understand the elements in the value chain of cosmetics. Specifically, the purpose of this study is to identify the different categories of players in the halal cosmetic value chain. Understanding of the different categories of the players in the industry based on the value chain is fundamental in supporting understanding of the practices in the industry and ultimately help educate the consumers. This article, which presents the preliminary findings of the study, revealed that cosmetic producers can be categorized based on their functions in the value chain and the size of their operations. Among the companies involved in halal cosmetics, their growth strategies of vertical integration are common in the industry, indicative of the dynamic and evolving nature of the industry value chain. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Familiness In Family Business: A Bibliometric Analysis(USIM Press, 2023) ;Nadiah Mahmad NasirKhairul Akmaliah AdhamFamily businesses have been ranked as among the top contributors to the overall global revenue. These firms are unique due to the embeddedness of family elements in their operation. The involvement of family members in the management and operation of such organizations is termed "familiness". Scholars have proposed familiness as a unique resource for family businesses, which can be leveraged by top management to gain a competitive advantage. However, thus far, the discussion on the concept of familiness has lacked a systematic and bird-eye review perspective, which has hindered understanding of the overall body of knowledge. To bridge this gap, a bibliometric analysis was employed to analyse the patterns and trends in past studies on familiness. The dataset consists of 149 articles retrieved from the SCOPUS database and imported into the Biblioshiny interface using the Bibliometrix R package. Analysis showed that familiness studies are growing and familiness concept is developing. Ten themes related to the familiness were identified, with the major ones include the development of the familiness concept, attributes and characteristics of a family business, and concerns for organizational growth and continuity. The findings of this bibliometric study, which is the first performed on the topic of familiness, offer recommendations for future research to further explore the role of familiness in facilitating family businesses’ strategic imperatives, such as internationalisation efforts, in ensuring the continuity of these firms across generations. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Familiness In Family Business: A Narrative Literature Review And Future Research Directions(UiTM Press, 2023) ;Nadiah Mahmad NasirKhairul Akmaliah AdhamFamily businesses, the backbone of the global economy, thrive on family elements, referred to as familiness. Familiness is a unique combination of resources available in family firms, generated through family involvement. However, currently, there is a lack of understanding of the concept of familiness. This study aimed to fill this knowledge gap by understanding the state-of-the-art literature on familiness concept. To fulfil this objective, a literature review on the concept of familiness in family business, specifically using the narrative review approach was conducted. This review employed a scoping searching technique to identify and select articles related to familiness. In total, 36 articles were included for review and analysis. The review generated three emergent themes: i) definitions of familiness; ii) roles of familiness; and iii) factors influencing familiness. It found that the definitions of the term familiness evolved over time. Earlier, literature defined familiness as existing resources in family firms, and later it was highlighted as resources that are actively co-created by family members through joint decision-making of the firm’s strategic decisions. In terms of the roles of familiness, this review extends the body of knowledge related to family businesses, particularly by outlining how familiness plays a predominantly positive role in influencing organisational outcomes. Furthermore, familiness may be the antecedent, mediator, and moderator of organisational outcomes, which potentially paves the way for establishing familiness as a potential source from which to generate resources for family businesses. The study also identified research gaps and provides some suggestions for future research. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Halal and Muslim-Minority Countries: A Systematic Literature Review(Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Malaya, 2024) ;Khairul Akmaliah Adham ;Nur Sa’adah Muhamad ;Mohd Fuaad SaidNadiah Mahmad NasirMuslim-minority countries have emerged among the largest exporters of halal products for the Muslim market and received significant numbers of inbound Muslim travellers. The global nature of the halal industry value chain calls for a thorough understanding about halal, particularly in the context of Muslim-minority countries. To gain this understanding, a systematic literature review was conducted to explore the themes of halal research in Muslim-minority countries. A total of 22 empirical research articles were analysed based on a review protocol adapted from ROSES. The articles were sourced from the Scopus and Web of Science, with Google Scholar as a supplementary database. The study generated five main themes that synthesise the scholarly knowledge about halal in the context of Muslim-minority countries at the consumer, organization, and institution levels of analysis. The findings illustrate the lack of understanding about halal among the industry players and consumers, as well as the lack of central governance and policymaking within the halal industry in Muslim-minority countries. Based on the findings, the study provides future direction for research and practice - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Halal Tourism on an Island Destination: Muslim Travellers' Experiences in the Local Islands of the Maldives(Emerald Publishing, 2024) ;Khairul Akmaliah Adham ;Nadiah Mahmad Nasir ;Aishath Sinaau ;Aminath ShaznieAhmed MunawarPurpose – This study extends the current understanding of halal tourism at an island destination. Specifically, this study aims to explore the attributes of halal tourism in the local islands of the Maldives, a fully Muslim country where tourism is the primary source of income for residents. To accomplish this, Muslim travellers’ experiences were examined using the process theory of travel, the halal tourism concept and the service marketing perspective. Design/methodology/approach – The study used a qualitative research methodology and conducted interviews with Muslim travellers visiting the local islands of the Maldives. Findings – The findings affirmed the five established generic attributes of halal tourism and generated another three emergent attributes of halal tourism, specific to an island destination. The study further enhances the existing knowledge of the generic attributes of halal food and beverage, prayers and mutual respect and benefits. It also establishes that the dimensions of safety and privacy, value for money, perishability and heterogeneity characterise all the emerging halal tourism attributes. The study concludes that halal tourism is an experience imbued with values that promotes dignified tourism. Originality/value – The findings on the specific attributes of halal tourism at an island destination extend overall understanding of the halal tourism concept and process. The fact that the Maldives is entirely Muslim offers a unique opportunity to explore the normative attributes of halal tourism in an island destination. This enhanced understanding contributes to effective managerial practices aimed at developing competitive halal tourism services. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Bhd. was a Malaysian company incorporated in 1996. Majpadu’s business was in manufacturing and supplying compressed clay bricks, known as dry pressed earth brick (DPEB), a type of bricks manufactured using high-density compression technology.
