Publication Achievement Motivation Among Islamic Studies Students and its Correlation With Problem Based Learning and Self-Efficacy(Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, 2023) ;Tazul IslamTareq M. ZayedBackground and Purpose: Achievement Motivation defines motivation as a concept that forecasts the behavioural inclination to strive for success and performance based on a person's urge for achievement. The purpose of this study was to examine the link between academic self-efficacy and problem-based learning (PBL) and achievement motivation among students of Islamic studies. Methodology: A quantitative research design was used for this explanatory investigation. 578 undergraduate students from three institutions in Malaysia—UM, IIUM, and USIM—totaled took part in the study. The participants were chosen at random. Both descriptive statistics and regression analysis were used to analyse the data set. Additionally, an intergroup comparison analysis and the independent sample t-test were performed. Results: The results of an independent sample t-test showed a significant difference in the mean achievement motivation scores between students of applied Islamic studies (M = 3.31, SD =.41) and those of non-applied Islamic studies (M = 3.04, SD =.38). This difference is statistically significant at t (575) = -7.94, p =.00. When ASE was controlled, PBL's influence on AchM diminished (Sobel z= 3.83, p=0.00), indicating that ASE was the mediator of the relationship between PBL and AchM. F (7, 570) = 22.42, p .0005, adj. R2 =.206, multiple regression substantially predicted ASE. The outcome demonstrates that the method used to solve problems and the kind of programs used may both be effective predictors of students' academic self-efficacy in Islamic studies. Contribution: The study concludes that achievement has a big impact on students’ motivation. The findings of the study may contribute to the departments of Islamic studies and the Ministry of Higher Education in Malaysia (MoHE) in understanding the present issue of achievement motivation, as the ministry's goal is to increase students' self-efficacy. The study has implications on Islamic Studies students at higher learning institutions to boost their motivation - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Approaches to Integration of Knowledge: A Study of Al-Ghazali And Alwani’s Views(International Islamic University Malaysia, 2018) ;Sayyid Muhammad Yunus GilaniTazul IslamThis research aims to study the approaches to integrating scientific and Islamic knowledge based on the views of two selected Muslim scholar, namely Al-Ghazali and Alwani. A considerable amount of research has been produced on knowledge integration, yet there is still a lack of study in exploring the ‘processes’ of integration. Hence, this research highlights this particular aspect from both traditional and contemporary perspectives. Qualitative in nature, the data for this work was collected from the writings of the selected scholars and analyzed in order to find out how the integration is achieved. As a result, this study finds out two distinctive approaches to integration: Firstly, in al-Ghazali’s view, integration is an external and complementary factor where Islamic knowledge and science maintain their own entity but the later complements the former as a supportive tool; secondly, Alwani sees the integration as an internal and essential matter where a knowledge evolves as a result of a mix of scientific reading of the Quranic texts as well as reading of the nature based on Quranic worldview. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Beyond Maqasid Al-Shariah: An Overview Of Conceptual Transcendence Of Maqasid Thought(Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, 2020-10-15)Tazul IslamThis paper aims to highlight on a new dawn of Maqasid thought called Maqasid al-Quran (MQ) which yet to be emerged as an independent Islamic science like its predecessor, the concept of Maqasid al-Shariah (MS). Being related, yet distinctive, Maqasid al-Quran was treated by some Muslim scholars as a next generation maqasid thought after Maqasid al-Shariah. Some contemporary scholars have categorically mentioned that the journey of Maqasid al-Shariah should continue until it reaches to Maqasid al-Quran which could have a wider scope of the methodological capacity to go beyond Islamic legal paradigm. Hence, to explore the conceptual implications of Maqasid al-Quran, this research will review some contemporary scholars’ views on the subject. This study expects to encourage a new thinking of maqasid discourse. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Being related, yet distinctive, Maqasid al-Quran was treated by some Muslim scholars as a next generation of maqasid thought after Maqasid al-Shariah. A contemporary Islamic jurist Taha Jabir Alwani has categorically mentioned that the journey of Maqasid al-Shariah should continue until it reaches to Maqasid al-Quran which could have a wider scope of the methodological capacity to go beyond Islamic legal paradigm. Hence, to explore the methodological implications of Maqasid al-Quran, this research will review Alwani’s views on the subject. As a result, it could encourage a new thinking of maqasid discourse. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication De-Radicalization Of Jihadism: An Analysis Of Maqasid Approach(Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, 2020-10-29)Tazul IslamJihad itself is not an objective in Islam. Yet, it is a means for various objectives like distinction between truth and false, gaining Allah's satisfaction, self-defense and repelling aggression, reinforcing of da‘wah and consolidating the callers, eliminating fitnah from society, helping oppressed and repelling tyrannical rule, purifying believers' group, extermination of internal enemy, sanction for betrayal and breaking agreements, sublimating God's word. However, violent jihadism has become a source of extremism and radicalization. This research aims to dissolve the controversy aroused about implementations of jihad in contemporary era by confining its objectives. The use of Jihad, its usage and types may be determined based on its objectives. This research is qualitative in nature as it focuses only on library data. However, to explore a maqasid perspective, books of tafsir will be used for the relevant issues. Publication Expansion Of Maqasid Thought Beyond Maqasid Al-shariah: Maqasid Al-quran As A New Paradigm(Hamdard Islamicus, 2022)Tazul IslamThe objective of this study is to examine a potential conceptual expansion of the concept of Maqasid (essential purposes of Islam). The contemporary developments in the Maqasid al-Shariah, a popular goal theory of Islam, remains largely unchanged from the theoretical point of view, which was developed by the traditional Muslim scholars. Although the implementation of Maqasid al-Shariah has significantly grown, its theoretical development remains limited. Some current Maqasid thinkers, however, are prompted to make efforts to broaden this goal notion. They have entitled this new endeavor as ‘Maqasid al-Quran’ instead of Maqasid al-Shariah to imply a more expansive interpretation of Maqasid. They argue that the journey of Maqasid al-Shariah should continue until it achieves a larger paradigm which might give it a wider methodological ability to function outside of the Maqasid al-Shariah framework. The researcher has used library data in the form of text from the pertinent books and scholarly articles to analyze new theoretical prospects of Maqasid. This study discovers that, in contrast to Maqasid al-Shariah which primarily focuses on the normative aspect of Islam, Maqasid al-Quran has the potential to be a broad Islamic goal theory since it expresses the goals of the entire Islamic discourse irrespective of normative aspect. It was defined more broadly than Maqasid al-Shariah by traditional and modern Maqasid scholars. Moreover, its methodological scope is deemed broader than that of Maqasid al- Shariah. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Factors For Nation’s Rise And Fall: An Analysis From Quranic Perspective(USIM Press, 2021-05) ;Tazul IslamSayyid Muhammad Yunus GilaniThis paper explores the Qur’anic factors for nation’s rise and fall. It highlights on how the divine law, sunnatullah, is functioning in this connection. The researcher depends on the textual analysis method dealing with relevant verses of the Quran. Hence, various types of Tafsir books were consulted. The findings include as follows: according to Quran, the universe is created and regulated in a systematic way which makes it a cosmos and not a chaos. This system is called sunnatullah, the natural laws of cause and effect. The case of nation’s rise and fall is also governed by the same divine system. The Quran depicts the standards and virtues such as strong belief system, righteous deeds, justice, reformation, renewal, having knowledge and wisdom might raise a nation to the sublime position among other nations. Similarly, it refers to some factors such as luxury, injustice, religious extremism, disunity that could propel a nation from the sublime to the ridiculous. It is expected that this study would deliver a significant contribution to this subject. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Ibn Ashur's Views on Maqasid al-Quran: An Analysis(Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, 2018)Tazul IslamThis research deals with MuÍammad al-ÙÉhir Ibn Ashur’s (1879-1973 C.E.) views of Objectives (Maqasid) of the Quran. As one of the pioneers of the theory of maqasid al-Shariah, he pays a significant attention to this subject. Unlike other contributors to this subject, he identifies eight basic objectives of the Quran and implicates them to the Quranic exegesis. According to him, bringing objectives of the Quran perspective to the interpretation of the Quran is extremely necessary. This study is a library research in which the data were collected from Ibn Ashur’s writings as well as some other relevant literature. Dealing with the collected materials, the researcher made a discourse analysis of Ibn Ashur’s views on the mater. After each ‘objective’ is discussed, a brief focus is made on the methodological basis of his identification of Objectives of (Maqasid) the Quran instead of outlining the issues that he has identified as the main objectives (Maqasid). - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Identifying the Higher Objectives (Maqāṣid) of the Qur'an: A Search for Methodology(IIUM Press, 2018)Tazul IslamThis research aims at defining some methodological tools that could help in understanding the higher objectives (maqāṣid) of the Qur’ān. It seems that there exists a lack of methodological identification in the previous literature. This could lead to confusion among readers of the subject to pinpoint the real objectives of the Qur’ān as a wide diversity in scholars’ identification of maqāṣid of the Qur’ān prevails in this regard and as of views are influenced by scholars’ personal and socio-contextual make-up. Consequently, the objectivity in identifying maqāṣid al-Qur’an is impaired. Such situations become major obstacles to the development of maqāṣid al-Qur’ān as a science of understanding the Qur’ān. If some well-defined methodological tools are developed, an objective identification of maqāṣid al-Qur’ān may be possible. A methodological identification of maqāṣid al-Qur’ān seems to be essential. Thus, this study explores some methodological approaches that could help in identifying the higher objectives of the Qur’ān. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication "Islamic Moderation" In Perspectives: A Comparison Between Oriental And Occidental Scholarships(Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Gunung Djati, 2015) ;Tazul IslamAmina KhatunIslamic moderation’ has received a great deal of academic and media attention both in the West and in the East. Yet, the denotation of the very term still remains abundantly paradoxical as different regions and contexts provide different sheds of meanings. In thewestern scholarship, Islamic moderation is concerned with liberal social norms, hermeneutics, political pluralism, democratic process, organizational affinities, and views of state legitimacy over the monopoly of violence, some kind of adaptation, willingness to cooperate or compromise. However, it is by no means exhaustive as its definition in Islamic scholarship provides some unlike constituents. To define moderation, Muslimscholars, firstly explores to lexical meanings of its Arabic substitute “wasatiyyah”. Secondly, they explore the textual meanings of the word “wasatiyyah” used in the orthodox text i.e the Quran and traditions (Sunnah) of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). According to them, moderation is a best suited, justly balanced or middle position between two extremes i.e. extremism and laxity. Their use of the term, is contextualized in terms of counter-extremism, modest socio-religious behaviour and temperate legal position. This research finds out a considerable textual and contextual difference in the use of the term ‘Islamic moderation’ between the East and the West. Hence, this study aims to explore the lack of integration between both scholarships in this issue. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Objective-Based Exegesis Of The Qur'an: A Conceptual Framework(Centre of Quranic Research (CQR), University Malaya, 2015) ;Tazul IslamAmina KhatunAl-Tafsir al-Maqasidi represents an exclusive maqasidic (purposive) trend in Qur’anic exegesis. In the available trends in tafsir, the maqasidic approach has yet to be treated exclusively and has been subject to only partial discussions. For the sake of a better understanding, a transformation in this trend from being inclusive to exclusive is needed. Unlike other exegetical trends in terms of basic components, mechanisms and focus, al-Tafsir al-Maqasidi centres on exploring the objectives of the Qur’an in a methodological manner. It then outlines how the Qur’anic contents develop a purposive (maqasidic) unity based on objectives and their means.Subsequently, it explores how these objectives materialised in the first generation of Islam. Thus, an exegesis in the light of these basic components would usher new angles, dimensions and methods of understanding the particular aspects of the Qur’an. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Organ Donation in Islam: A Search for a Broader Quranic Perspective(MDPI, 2021)Tazul IslamOrgan donation is a widely debated issue in Islamic scholarship. Muslim jurists, however, have produced a substantial amount of evidence supporting its legality. Despite this, previous research has revealed that Muslim communities around the world are still wary of organ donation. The main reasons for this attitude are motivational and educational in nature. To address these two problems, the purpose of this research is to look into the Quranic conceptual background, which could help to expand the justification of organ donation in the motivational context. This study investigated the Quranic verses that scholars have cited in their writings on organ donation and transplantation. The theoretical underpinnings for the use of those verses were deduced. Data were collected from 36 studies on organ donation that refer to Quranic verses and examined how those verses were analyzed. This study discovered that a number of Quranic verses were primarily used to justify the permissibility of organ donation, with little effort made to analyze the verses using specific methodologies dedicated to the Quranic texts. As a result, the outcome may not be helpful to solve the current dilemma which is Muslim communities’ reluctance to donate organs. Hence, it is important to explore a broad theoretical framework for organ donation based on the Quran. This study suggests how to bring this new perspective to the subject and overcome the existing problem. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Organ Donation In Islam: A Search For A Broader Quranic Perspective(Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, 2021-10-06)Tazul IslamOrgan donation from Islamic perspective is an issue of huge controversy. Muslim jurists have given two divided opinions between approval and rejection. The matter of concern is both side have generally used their juristic principles and tools to deliver their judgements on the issue where Quranic principles are largely avoided. As far as organ donation is concerned, the Quranic principles of donation, charity, mutual cooperation, protection life, benefaction, ownership of life, rights of patient to be cured, medical ethics, social responsibility to a patient, concept of wasiyyah etc. could be associated to the juristic tools for any judgement to be justified. This study investigates into the verses Quranic verses cited by the scholars in their writings in organ donation and transplantation. It will deduct the theoretical underpinnings behind the use of those verses. It will suggest adding on new dimension from Quranic verses to the topic. With this new addendum, a new perspective on the subject is expected to be emerged. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Preventive Healthcare System and Religious Rites of Burial During Pandemic: A Comparison between Jewish and Islamic Rituals(USIM Press, 2023) ;Abdulrahman Obeid Hussein ;Tazul IslamAdnan Mohd ShalashMany funeral guidance and regulations were imposed during Covid-19 restriction movement to control the risk of Corona spreading, such as maintaining the social distance and in/outdoor safe gathering. Due to the high risk of the contagion, some religious rites were avoided like the gathering of many comforters, take the farewell look at the deceased and almost cancelling the decrees of religious burying and grief, which are spiritual potion for those who lost their loved ones. Since both Judaism and Islam forbid cremation, the burial rites should be strictly monitored and the decision of holding a modified mourning tributes for the deceased must be taken cautiously and in cooperation with the competent medical authority. But how does the new funeral regulation coincide with religious values? And how Jewish and Islamic traditions about washing the infected deceased’s body, burial shroud, coffin, cemetery, initial mourning period and other customs could be preventive healthcare instructions? This article is attempting to answer these questions in the light of the Biblical and Quranic teachings. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Religious Conflict In Early Islam: A Study Of Its Causes From Quran Sunnah Perspective(Centre of Quranic Research (CQR), University Malaya, 2014) ;Tazul IslamS. M. Yunus GilaniThis paper aims to present an historical survey on the conflict between Islam and other religions. It undertakes an analytic textual reading of the concerned Quranic verses and a historical survey of the Prophet’s (pbuh) efforts to resolution of the conflict. This study finds that a multi-dimensional causes contributed to the conflict between the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and other religions. For example, Religious roots which was mainly caused by the Christians and Jews’ denial of prophecy of Muhammad (pbuh) after a clear prediction of his prophethood in their religious scriptures. However, politico-economy was another key element of this conflict in the early Islamic state in Madinah. Though this conflict had come to broad daylight in the Islamic era, had a long pre-Islamic root go back to the second and third century CE. Moreover, Jews and Christians had a genuine fear of being defeated by the new emerging Muslim power. Therefore, they had found themselves in conflict so that they could reign their hegemony over the territory. In addition, after a city state was established in Madinah, the Prophet (pbuh) found a demographic presence of Jews and their ally Quraish threatening it peace, security, stability and even assassination of head of the state. Hence, the conflict had become inevitable.
