This research is motivated by the need to create an Arabic Language as A Second Language programme for the Islamic University College of Malaysia with effective teaching and learning processes. Among the questions that have long preoccupied our minds and the minds of pedagogy and education specialists is "What is the best way and the most effective manner to build learners' skills in listening,speaking, reading and writing?". Thus, the purpose of this research is to study how Arabic is being taught in these universities and to propose a comprehensive methodology of teaching the four skills for Arabic at the Islamic University College of Malaysia. This study is a combination of library, field, analytical and developmental methodologies in research. The library research provides an understanding of teaching methodologies in general and the cuniculum employed at these Universities. The field research gathers data on the administration and supervision of programmes, the qualification of lecturers and teachers, their methodology in teaching, the curriculum, the goals of the curriculum, the teaching aids, and the learners. It includes observation and the distribution of questionnaires. An analysis of all these data reveals the following findings: First, students acquire more knowledge and competence if the lecturer is linguistically qualified and eloquent but does not do much of the talking. Second, the Eact that the lecturer or the teacher endears him or herself to the students has a very essential role to play in the success of any educational process. Third, the use of teaching aids is of paramount importance for effective learning. Thus, the use of language laboratory and technologically advanced tools such as an electronic chair which corrects the grammatical errors of the learners is desirable. Fourth, there is a need for evaluating andadjusting the curriculum in order to suite the Islamic University college of Malaysia. We have found that the curriculum is at the begging stage; therefore, there is an urgent need for alternative methods in teaching that are informed by civilizational and scientific developments. we recommend the use of the curriculum and teaching methodologies suggested in "Teaching Arabic as a Second Language", a book published by Umm al-Qura University. This will ease the process of teaching Arabic language as a second language and also learners will be able to acquire the language in a short period of time with less effort. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Responden kajian terdiri daripada lepasan sekolah dan ma’ahad agama seluruh negara. Umum mengetahui bahawa bahasa Arab tidak asing kepada para pelajar ini yang terdiri daripada kalangan pelajar pengajian agama dan mereka telah lama mengikuti pembelajaran bahasa ini secara formal bermula dari sekolah rendah hingga ke peringkat menengahsebelum memasuki pusat-pusat pengajian tinggi negara. Namun masih banyak kesilapan yang mereka lakukan sewaktu menggunakan bahasa ini khususnya ketika menerapkan aspek sistem sintaksis bahasa Arab yang betul dalam penulisan. Teori Analisis Kesilapan oleh S.P. Corderyang memperkenalkan empat dimensi klasifikasi kesilapan pelajar sewaktu mempelajari bahasa diterapkan ketika penulis menjalankan kajian ini. Data kajian dikumpulkan melalui ujian bertulis yang diadakan terhadap sekumpulan 25 pelajar yang baharu mendaftar di universiti ini. Dapatan kajian ini membuktikan wujud kecenderungan pelajar untuk melakukan kesilapan dalam aspek ortografi, leksikon, nahu dan struktur ayat. Namun kesilapan yang paling ketara dan banyak dilakukan oleh pelajar adalah dari aspek penggunaan nahu. Malah dapatan kajian juga menunjukkan pelajar berulang kali melakukan bentuk kesalahan yang sama dan kekerapan kesalahan ini menunjukkan bahawa pelajar menghadapi masalah kemampuan linguistik (linguistic competence)dalam bahasa sasaran yang sedang mereka pelajari. Publication Arabic Linguistics of OT as Analytical Approach for Grammatical Error in Quran: A Preliminary Concept(Human Resource Management Academic Research Society, 2023) ;Mohd Nizwan MuslingZainur Rijal Abdul RazakThe Quran including the Qiro?t Qur?niyah is an authentic source of naqli in the formulation of the Arabic grammatical rules together with the Hadith and expressions of native Arabs. However, it was found that several uses of this resource language is seen to contradict with the grammatical rules drawn by Arab grammarians. This situation resulted in various reactions and negative interpretations amongst the past scholars of Arab syntax, not to mention from orientalists such as ‘Abdallah ‘Abd al-Fadi in his book “Is the Qur’an Infallible?”, which claimed that there are grammatical errors in the Islamic holy book. Therefore, to answer these allegations, an Arabic linguistic approach was proposed by adapting Prince and McCathy's Optimality Theory (OT) based on the main principle that grammatical rules are not mandatory, but are contraints that can either be obeyed or refuted. After the adaptation process, two types of optimality were classified in the ungrammatical Arabic resource language structure framework which were Usage Optimality and Grammatical Optimality. It measures the extent to which the level of grammar or sentence structure diverge or conform to the elements of optimality (aqli). Through this analysis, the language struture will also be supported with other types of Arabic materials from other sources (naqli) to identify if the grammar violation is related to the process of Arabic language development, as is the case with other languages of its group (Semitic Languages), or involves semantic elements/meaning that the speaker wishes to convey to the target audience. Hence, it is hoped that this approach will become a linguistic analysis approach that is friendlier to the nature of language, to harmonise the viewpoints and negative interpretations toward the use of ungramatical Arabic resource language, to then answer negative perceptions of the orientalists or the claims made about the weaknesses and errors of grammar in the Al-Quran. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication The Impact Of Integrating Critical Thinking Skill In Reading Curriculum In Developing Qatari Students Performance In PISA Exam(Kolej Universiti Islam Sultan Azlan Shah, 2021) ;Sayed SharfeldinZainur Rijal Abdul RazakThis study aims at identifying the effect of integrating critical thinking skills in the Arabic language reading curriculum for seventh graders in the State of Qatar as an attempt to improve the performance of Qatari students in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). This study uses the descriptive-analytical method. It analyzes the content of the reading course for grade seven in Qatar and the content of the PISA test in the field of reading knowledge and their critical thinking skills. The results of the study show a clear improvement in the performance of Qatari students in the PISA tests in general, as they made remarkable progress between 2006 and 2015, where the general average - in the field of reading literacy - increased from (312) to (402). The theme tells about women's freedom from the shackles of life traditions. Similar theme is found in Faridah Hanom‟s novel which is Malaysia's first novel, by Syed Syeikh al-Hadi. The plot of Faridah Hanom revolves around the above issue which takes the backdrop of Cairo and its surroundings. The current study aims to identify the similarities between Zainab's novel and Faridah Hanom's novel in terms of themes, characters, plots and backgrounds. The comparison and analysis carried out between the two novels clearly indicate that there are similarities in the selection of themes, characters, plot construction structures and depicted background images. The main theme of both novels is freedom of women from the grip of tradition that does not allow women the right to go out to work, to study and to choose a life partner. Both characters are similarly played by female characters and assisted by male characters. The only difference is the number of angles. From the point of the plot, both revolve around the love relationship between two teenagers as a result of love at first sight. The similarity of background, however, can be seen through the plots that occur in the Egyptian states, the cities of Alexandria and Sudan. In addition, the novels portray the village cultural lives. This equivalences show that the Zainab‟s novel has influenced the creation of Faridah Hanom's novel through adaptation form. Di peringkat Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM), bahasa Arab digunakan sepenuhnya sebagai bahasa perantaraan dalam proses PdP dan buku teks. Justeru, penguasaan para pelajar STAM terhadap kosa kata-kosa kata penting yang digunakan dalam buku-buku teks STAM wajar diberi perhatian. Namun, sejauh manakah tahap penguasaan pelajar-pelajar STAM terhadap kosa kata-kosa kata yang terdapat dalam buku-buku ini? Oleh itu, kajian ini dijalankan untuk mengenal pasti tahap pencapaian para pelajar STAM dalam memahami kosa kata-kosa kata yang penting dan kerap digunakan dalam buku-buku teks mereka. Data korpus yang mengandungi teks dari sepuluh buah buku teks STAM telah dibina dan dianalisa untuk mendapatkan senarai kosa kata terbahagi kepada dua kategori iaitu mengikut 1) kekerapan penggunaan dan 2) kata kunci. Senarai kosa kata dan kata kunci tersebut kemudiannya diuji ke atas 115 calon STAM daripada tiga buah sekolah menengah yang dipilih. BakarZainur Rijal Abdul RazakIsu makanan halal telah menjadi isu global yang hangat diperbincangkan dewasa ini. Segenap lapisan masyarakat sama ada muslim atau tidak semakin sensitif dengan perkembangan isu makanan termasuklah ke peringkat status kesucian sesuatu produk makanan. Atas kesedaran ini, Malaysia berhasrat untuk menjadikan negara ini sebagai hub halal terkemuka yang menjadi tumpuan dunia. Sehubungan dengan itu, isu makanan termasuklah metode pengeluaran hukum dan status sesuatu produk makanan sering dibincangkan di pelbagai peringkat seperti seminar dan pusat penyelidikan. Pelbagai aspek disentuh dalam perbincangan tersebut termasuklah peranan bahasa Arab dalam perkara ini. Penghuraian isu makanan dari segi status kesuciannya tidak dapat dipisahkan daripada pengaruh bahasa Arab. Oleh itu, kertas kerja ini akan membincangkan kepentingan bahasa Arab dalam penghuraian isu makanan. RahmanPenyelidikan ini mengkaji kesan faktor bahasa arab iaitu terminology, semantic dan budaya terhadap penghuraian isu makanan dalam surah Al-Maidah dan surah An’am. Disamping itu, penyelidikan ini cuba melihat tahap pengetahuan masyarakat dan kesedaran mereka terhadap isu makanan halal. Bagi tujuan pertama, metod kajian perpustakaan digunakan mengkaji beberapa ayat al-Quran yang berkaitan isu makanan dalam dua surah tersebut. Dalam merealisasikan tujuan kedua, sebanyak 300 borang soal selidik telah diedarkan kepada responden yang terdiri daripada pensyarah, pelajar, pegawai, guru dan pengusaha makanan. Pengalisan Sciences (SPSS) dengan menggunakan perisian Statistikal Packages for Social dan jadual silang (Crosstabulations). Selain daripada itu , kaedah temu bual juga dijalankan dengan Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) dan Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Negeri Sembilan (JHEAINS) bagi mencapai tujuan kedua ini. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa ketiga-tiga aspek bahasa arab iaitu terminologi, semantic dan budaya mempunyai kaitan yang amat rapat dan mesti diambil kira dalam penghuraian isu makanan dalam surah al-Maidah dan al-An’am. RahmanThe objective of this research is to investigate the effect of the Arabic language in terms of its terminology, semantic and culture focusing on the issue of food in Quranic surahs of al-Miiidah and al-hCiim. The research also tried to analyse the level of public understanding and their awareness towards halal food. For the first objective, library research method was used to analyse verses fiom the selected surahs regarding the food issue. For the second objective, 300 questionnaire forms were distributed to the respondents consist of iecturers, students, officers, teachers and food producers. These questionnaires were analysed using the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences software (SPSS) which used the descriptive method (frequency and percentage) and crosstabulations. Apart from that, interviews were held with Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) and Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Negeri Sembilan (JHEAINS) as to achieve the result for the second objective. The findings show that the three aspects of Arabic language that are: terminology, semantic and culture have a close relationship and must be taken into account when discussing the issue of food in both surahs of al-Miiidah and al-An%. The findings of the research also indicate that majority of the community shows great concern on halal food issue and they also observe its development. It is undeniable that the Arabic language factor is the branch of knowledge that must be considered when interpreting the Quranic verses. This is because the purpose of a particular interpretation of the Quran as a source of law should be construed in accordance with the views of Islamic scholars when influenced by language factors. The objective of this paper is to identify to what extent three factors, namely, Arabic terminology, semantics and ‘urf, can affect the Quranic interpretation and hukum production of halal food issue. To achieve the objective, the library research method was used to analyse related verses in surah al-Ma’idah and al-An‘am. The research aims to identify and analyze the most common mistakes made by KUIM and UIAM Islam~c S~udies students in written Arabic. The research consists of two parts. The first part delves into the theories that explain how and why students make mistakes when writing in Arabic. The second part of the research consists of data analysis. A sample of a group of students' final year examinations is used to analyze and identify the most common mistakes in the writing of Arabic. The research indicates that the most common mistakes in written Arabic include the following: the misuse of the symbol Irab Usul and Furuk, the usage of AIi Lam Takrlf; penyelarasan kategori jantina, the use of the letter jar, and the use of pronouns, Aid after Isim Mausul. The research also revealed that the students' background contributes to the occurrence of common mistakes in examinations. The research suggests that the curriculum and syllabus for the teaching of Arabic need to be improved. Shahriman Abu BakarHaving the knowledge on a huge number of vocabularies in foreign language learning is an important factor to be an expert in that particular language. At STAM level, Arabic language is being fully used in all students’ textbooks. Therefore, in order to cope with the learning, students should have the knowledge to understand the vocabularies used in their textbooks. However, the question is, do they have to focus on all the vocabularies found in their textbooks? This study aims to determine what are the vocabularies that frequently being used in STAM textbooks and their keywords. To achieve these objectives, the corpus of data that contains the text of three STAM textbooks was constructed and analyzed using computer software wordsmith 6.0. The Applications of word lists tool in the software was used to analyze the importance of a word by analyzing its frequency. Meanwhile, the keyword tool was used to specify keywords from the textbooks. The results showed that there is a certain vocabulary frequently used and should be the focus of students at this level. However, the keywords for a textbook are not necessarily the words that frequently used, but the vocabulary specific to the discussion topic of the book. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Media Akhbar Dan Penggunaan Bahasa Arab Standard Moden(Fakulti Sains Sosial Dan Kamanusiaan, UKM, 2013)Zainur Rijal Abdul RazakSemua bahasa di dunia mengalami perubahan dan perkembangan sepanjang sejarahnya dari pelbagai aspek samada dari segi tatabahasa, pembentukan perkataan, semantik dan sebagainya. Dalam bahasa Arab khususnya, aspek ‘perkataan’ dan ‘frasa’ adalah antara aspek utama yang mengalami perubahan besar. Tujuan penyediaan kertas ini adalah untuk mendedahkan sumbangan dan peranan akhbar dalam membentuk identiti bahasa Arab standard dalam aspek ‘perkataan’ dan ‘frasa’ terutama selepas revolusi komunikasi di negara Arab. Tumpuan diberikan kepada perubahan penggunaan perkataan yang diiktiraf dan dipopularkan oleh akhbar sebelum diterima dan digunapakai oleh medium lain. Ini termasuklah perkataan-perkataan asing yang semakin berleluasa digunakan dalam akhbar Arab masa kini. Menurut sebahagian besar pakar bahasa, zaman moden bahasa Arab tiba dengan tercetusnya revolusi teknologi khususnya dalam aspek komunikasi dan pendidikan akibat dari percampurannya dengan bahasa – bahasa lain di dunia. Bagi mencapai tujuan ini sebanyak 422 artikel akhbar telah dikumpul dan dianalisa. Data kajian ini merangkumi 7 akhbar dari tujuh negara yang berbeza termasuk dua daripadanya adalah dari negara bukan Arab iaitu United Kingdom dan Australia. Publication Pengurusan Pelajar Siswazah Antarabangsa USIM Pasca Covid-19: Analisis Pandangan Pelajar(Academic Inspired Network, 2022) ;Zainur Rijal Abdul Razak ;Fauziah HassanAmir ShaharuddinPenularan wabak Covid-19 telah memberi impak kepada corak kehidupan masyarakat dunia secara keseluruhannya. Kemuncaknya pada sekitar penghujung tahun 2020 ini apabila hampir 4 billion manusia atau separuh dari penduduk dunia menghadapi ‘lockdown’ atau kawalan pergerakan di rumah atau di pusat kuarantin. Hal ini telah memberi kesan secara keseluruhan kepada pergerakan antarabangsa masyarakat dunia atas apa juga tujuan sama ada untuk pelancongan, perniagaan mahupun pendidikan. Meskipun semua negara akan menarik semula arahan kawalan pergerakan ini apabila keadaan pulih, namun, norma kehidupan masyarakat dunia tidak akan kembali seperti sedia ada untuk tempoh yang lama. Impak negatif Covid-19 ini tidak terkecuali di peringkat pengajian tinggi termasuklah pelajar antarabangsa yang terpaksa menghadapi PdP secara online sepenuhnya. Kesukaran yang dihadapi golongan pelajar ini mungkin tidak diberi perhatian khusus memandangkan mereka merupakan minoriti di universiti. Justeru, kajian ini bertujuan mendapatkan pandangan pelajar siswazah antarabangsa terhadap kesediaan dan pengalaman mereka dalam mengharungi cabaran PdP ketika pandemik. Dapatan dari data kuantitatif ini dijadikan asas untuk mencadangkan dasar pengurusan pelajar siswazah antarabangsa pasca pandemik. Kajian ini mendapat maklumat yang diperlukan melalui kaedah soal selidik yang diedarkan kepada 130 pelajar siswazah antarabangsa semasa yang sedang mengikuti pengajian sarjana dan doktor falsafah di Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa walaupun sebahagian besar pelajar antarabangsa siswazah di USIM tidak menghadapi masalah besar dalam mengikuti PdP online ketika pandemik Covid-19 ini. Namun, minoriti pelajar juga perlu diberi perhatian agar tiada pelajar tercicir dari mengikuti pengajian. Publication Peranan Aktiviti Ko-kurikulum Tambahan Berkaitan Bahasa Arab di USIM dalam Meningkatkan Penguasaan Bahasa Pelajar(Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, 2007) ;Wan Azura Wan Ahmad ;Zainur Rijal Abdul RazakWan Moharani MohammadThis research studies the role of Arabic language co-curriculum activities in Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM) also previously known as Islamic University College of Malaysia (KUIM) in improving the students' language proficiency. In order to achieve the main objective of this research, about 67 questionnaires were distributed to the students from the first, second and third year of Bachelor of Arabic Language and Communication from Faculty of Major Languages, USIM. Besides that, the pre and post tests were administrated during selected Arabic language activities such as Language Camp, Language Month, Language Week and Mentor-mentee programme. The researchers also conducted several interviews to a number of academicians, 2 FPBU's students and 2 students from Faculty of Economic and Muamalat and Faculty of Quranic and Sunnah Studies respectively. The objective of engaging this interview is to gather students' responses on the role of Arabic language co-curriculum activities in improving their language proficiency as well as to know their problems and point of views on the activities. This research found that the co-curriculum activities which were held at either FPBU or USIM level to some extend, play a very important role in improving the students' proficiency in Arabic language. Nevertheless, the research also revealed a few setback in such language programs conducted, including failing to meet the program's objective due to excessive loads of planned activities. Hence, this research further suggested that organizers to prepare a detailed and comprehensive annual planning prior to the programme or activities held, apart from monitoring the faculty's activities to ensure effective and conductive learning environment instilled in such programmes. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Perbezaan Di Antara Kata Kerja Berimbuhan Dalam Bahasa Arab Dan Bahasa Melayu(Persatuan Linguistik Malaysia, 2014) ;Zainur Rijal Abdul RazakMahmoud Mohammed AliLazimnya orang Melayu sebagai bukan penutur jati bahasa Arab, mempelajari dan memahami bahasa Arab melalui kaedah menterjemah ke dalam bahasa ibunda serta membandingkan ciri-ciri antara kedua-dua bahasa. Oleh yang demikian, bagi menjadikan penterjemahan itu betul dan menepati maksud sebenar, penguasaan dalam kedua-dua bahasa amat penting. Antara aspek yang mesti dikuasai dengan baik ialah pengetahuan berkaitan ciri-ciri persamaan dan perbezaan dalam kedua-dua bahasa. Didapati bahawa antara punca kelemahan para pelajar dalam bahasa Arab khususnya tajuk kata kerja berimbuhan adalah kegagalan mereka mengenal pasti aspek persamaan dan perbezaan yang terdapat dalam tajuk ini. Justeru, artikel ini cuba meneliti tajuk kata kerja berimbuhan dalam bahasa Arab dan Melayu dengan menumpukan kepada aspek perbezaan sama ada dari segi fizikal pengimbuhan itu sendiri mahupun aspek maksud pengimbuhan. However studies have not yet been carried out on the usage of Arabic in its specific context especially in the air port area out side of Arab countries. Thus, the usage of Arabic language at the KLIA as a medium of conveying information has triggered a new dimension as the only one of its kind of services offered. It also arises a question, does it achieve its objectives and how positive is the perception on the services provided as perceived by the users as well as the officers in charged at the air port. This study clearly showed positive perception among the users and officers in charged towards the usage of Arabic at the air port of KLIA. The good infrastructure and facilities, the capabilities and skills of the staff as well as the quality of the services provided are among the key factors that have brought up the emergence of this positive perception among them. However, there are rooms for improvement, need to be taken into account by related authorities seriously, especially in terms of providing enough and sufficient Arabic printed materials, sinages and electronic boards, and improving the language skills and capabilities among their staff. Publication Pertembungan Penggunaan Perkataan Arab dengan Tamadun Barat: Pemerhatian Deskriptif dalam Akhbar Arab(USIM Press, 2023-04)Zainur Rijal Abdul RazakSejarah ketamadunan manusia yang panjang menyaksikan pertembungan sengit antara tamadun Islam dan tamadun barat serta saling mempengaruhi antara satu sama lain dari pelbagai aspek kehidupan. Aspek bahasa dan sosio-budaya adalah antara kesan persaingan ini yang dapat dilihat. Namun, realiti masa kini yang menyaksikan tamadun barat mendominasi kehidupan masyarakat maju melalui ciptaan-ciptaan moden dalam sains dan teknologi, bahasa Arab tidak terkecuali terpengaruh dari bahasa-bahasa yang digunakan di barat. Kemasukan banyak istilah baharu dari barat ke dalam bahasa Arab menyebabkan para sarjana bahasa mengagaskan istilah baharu Bahasa Arab Moden Standard (MSA) bagi menandakan era baharu perkembangan bahasa berbanding bahasa Arab klasik yang digunakan dalam al-Quran dan teks-teks klasik. Justeru, kertas ini bertujuan untuk menilai sejauh mana ketahanan bahasa Arab dari aspek morfologi mengharungi cabaran dalam situasi ini. Ia juga mengkaji sejauh mana morfologi Arab boleh bertoleransi dalam menerima beberapa ciri perkataan dan frasa dari bahasa asing. Seterusnya kertas ini juga menganalisa secara ringkas beberapa artikel akhbar dari lima buah negara Arab bagi melihat persamaan dan perbezaaan penggunaan perkataan dan frasa asing mewakili negara masing-masing. Dapatan menunjukkan bahawa bahasa Arab mempunyai asas yang kukuh untuk menerima beberapa perkataan asing. Ia berlaku melalui pelbagai kaedah iaitu samada penerimaan terus sesuatu perkataan tanpa perubahan, penerimaan terus dengan keakuran terhadap kepada sistem linguistik Arab atau melalui pembentukan kata terbitan Arab baharu.
