Publication A Maturity Model for the Accredited Food Laboratory in Malaysia: A Case Study(Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, 2025-02-24) ;Li Hui Ling; ; Mehmet OzturkA Maturity Model (MM) is essential for laboratories aiming to improve and compete globally. Despite being accredited for over 20 years, some laboratories lack evidence of system maturity necessary for international competitiveness. A higher maturity level indicates a robust quality management system, leading to improved efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction, while also assuring stakeholders, such as customers and regulatory bodies, of the laboratory's commitment to continuous improvement. The MM is designed to assess the success of laboratory processes, management styles, and the development of quality management practices, based on the 4M model (Manpower, Method, Machine, Material). The MM was developed using Analytes Accurate Certain Score (AACS) for the ten most common tests and System Maturity Scores (SMS), which incorporate proficiency testing and audit scores over two accreditation cycles (six years). While the model identifies inefficiencies, it helps organizations pinpoint areas of improvement and devise strategies to enhance their operations. This study applied the MM to a commercial laboratory, ABC (anonymized), accredited since the early 1990s and having undergone eight assessment cycles. The laboratory was found to be at a “leading” maturity level with a score above 80%, although improvements are still needed. Key areas for improvement include: 1) **Manpower**: maintaining competent staff by adjusting management strategies, 2) **Method**: validating all in-house methods according to Analytical Laboratory Accreditation Criteria Committee (ALACC) guidelines, 3) **Machine**: applying good laboratory practices (GLP) for equipment sharing, especially for specific analytes, and 4) **Material**: ensuring metrologically traceable reference materials and proficiency testing for all analytes. These improvements will help the laboratory further enhance its global competitiveness. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication A Rare Case Of Primary Cns Lymphoma In An Hiv-positive Patient Mimicking Cns Tuberculosis(Springer Nature, 2024); ;Mohamad Izzat Arslan Che RosShahrunizam Awang SetiaPrimary cerebral lymphoma in immunocompromised patients is rare and challenging to diagnose. Its presentation can have similarities with other opportunistic diseases like cerebral toxoplasmosis and tuberculoma, to name a few, which may affect the subsequent management. Here, we report a case of a gentleman with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) who presented with clinical features of fever, confusion, and generalized lethargy. His imaging features mimicked those of central nervous system (CNS) tuberculosis (TB), and he was treated for one. Unfortunately, the patient failed to respond to the antituberculosis treatment and continued to deteriorate eventually succumbing to his illness. Brain histopathology biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. We aim to illustrate the importance of a high index of suspicion with timely action taken whenever the anticipated finding or response to treatment is not observed. Multiple imaging modalities coupled with biochemistry and histopathological investigations should be considered in discriminating competing diagnoses. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication A Study On Propensity To Indebtedness Among Young Working Malays In MalaysiaPurpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that affect propensity to indebtedness among young working Malays in Malaysia. Individual indebtedness has been a phenomenon in Malaysia especially since the 2008 global financial crisis. Measured by household debt to gross domestic product (GDP), Malaysia experienced high levels of household debt of more than 80% since 2010. Consumption behaviour patterns have revolutionized in recent years where online shopping has been a norm. Online shopping has been made easy by reliable payment gateway including the use of credit card and buy-nowpay-later (BNPL) facilities. Furthermore, there is a constant offer and strong promotion of mega sales on online shopping sites. Design/methodology/approach: In this study, four variables are tested as predictors to propensity to indebtedness. They are money management skills, status consumption, susceptibility to interpersonal influence, and attitudes towards debt. The sample for this study consisted of 324 valid respondents who participated in a survey. The data was collected via online platform and physical. The data was analyzed using the partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Findings: The findings revealed that there is a substantive significant negative relationship between money management skills and attitudes towards debt. Status consumption and susceptibility to interpersonal influence substantively significantly affect attitudes towards debt positively. And attitudes towards debt significantly affects the propensity to indebtedness positively. For mediation, it has been found that attitudes towards debt mediated the relationship between all the three variables (money management skills, status consumption, and susceptibility to interpersonal influence) and propensity to indebtedness. Research limitations/implications: Further research may include socio demographic factors such as parental guide, other consumer behaviour factors such compulsive buying, and other financial factors such as access to credit as predictors to propensity to indebtedness. The research can also be extended to pre-retirement individuals as these people are also quite fragilein facing debt problem as they have short period of time to recover their indebtedness problem before they retire. Practical implications: The results could be used by regulators to control the high level of indebtedness among Malaysians, especially the young people. The government, through relevant agencies, may educate people about the importance of personal financial management and the risks of being over-indebted. Originality/value: The variables used in this study represent financial factors and consumer behaviour factors. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication A Survey On Achievement Motivation Among University Students(Human Resource Management Academic Research Societ, 2023); ; ;Ishaq Ibrahim; ; Husin SungkarBeing motivated is a major factor contributing to student excellence in their studies and success in life. Students face various academic pressures from the education system itself or from environmental factors that can impact their level of motivation to achieve excellence. This study explores achievement motivational levels among university students in Malaysia from the four aspects of gender, race, place of residence and academic performance (CGPA). This survey-type study uses a simple random sampling method involving research subjects comprising 200 students (n=200). The research instrument used is the Achievement Motivation Test (AMT) introduced by Abu Bakar Nordin (1995). Data was analyzed using SPSS Version 26 software. An independent sample t-test analysis was used to identify the differences in achievement motivation levels based on the four aspects mentioned. Overall, the study found no difference in the level of student motivation based on gender (t= 0.254, p> 0.05), race (t= 0.922, p> 0.05), place of residence (t= 1.836, p> 0.05), and academic performance (t=1.623, p> 0.05). However, some differences in motivation levels were found between students with low (M = 2.8) and high (M = 3.0) CGPAs. Thus, it can be concluded that motivational levels have a major role in ensuring student success and excellence. This study can form the basis for designing motivational modules or guidelines in public universities and the Ministry of Education for enhancing student achievement.5 51 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Abusive Head Trauma: Annual Medical Costs for Inpatient Care of Children Managed at a Single Tertiary Care Centre in MalaysiaBackground Abusive head trauma (AHT) is a leading cause of traumatic head injury in young children. This study estimated the annual direct medical cost of managing AHT at a single tertiary care centre in Malaysia. Methods Criteria were set for categorisation of patients as moderate or severe based on resource utilisation. The two methods used for cost computation were (1) cost estimation based on predefined clinical pathways for case management (2) computation of actual costs using patient-level data from retrospective review of all AHT admissions in 2021. Both methods utilised a combination of activity-based and top-down costing according to availability of reference data. Costs are presented in USD. Results Costs for 9 severe and 3 moderate cases in 2021 amounted to $70,532.16, of which 93 % was for severe cases. Cost estimate for moderate cases was $2009.88 while actual costs ranged between $749.37–3115.47 (median $1422.76). Cost estimates of $15,125.76–$17,958.18 for severe cases exceeded actual costs of $2195.57–$13,186.03 (median $7379.40) for severe cases due to shorter-than-expected duration of stay, with only 2 who underwent neurosurgical procedures. Major cost contributors were duration of stay, intensive care, ventilation and neurosurgical procedures. Conclusion Cost comparison utilising predefined treatment standards versus actual patient data which reveals major cost determinants enables refinement of budget allocation. Median medical costs for severe cases which exceeded the monthly income ceilings of low- and middle-income households in Malaysia demonstrate the economic burden of AHT, reinforcing the need to invest in prevention. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication Acetal Derivatives Of Hydroxycitronellal: A Review On Synthesis, Characterization And Their Mosquitoe Repellent ActivitiesMosquitoes represent the deadliest animal species in tropical regions because they can affect human health. Personal protection which is mosquito repellent has been used since 20th century. Mosquito repellent which contains plant-based ingredients has high demand from consumers since its efficacy is as good as synthetic ones. Citronella genus plants are originally extracted to be used in perfumery, then they were used for ingredients of plant-based mosquito repellents as they have repellent properties. Citronellalbased repellent has an effective dose such as N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide dose. However, the oil content has high volatility causing it to reduce its efficacy because the oil evaporates. Recently, the structure of citronellal compound has been modified into hydroxycitronellal by adding some functional groups to reduce the release rate, prolong the protection time and improve the stability of the compound. The release rate properties are affected by functional groups and the molar mass of the compounds. This paper presents a summary of recent catalyst and solvent usage during synthesis, characterization and comparison of mosquito repellents.3 30 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Adaptation From Prosumerism Idea In Conceptualising The Benefidonors Concept(Academia Industry Networks, 2021-12-04); ; ; ; ; ; ; ; Muhammad Mohamad YusoffThis is a conceptual article that includes an examination of a literature review on waqf from 2011 to 2021. According to the findings, "Use More" can occur among beneficiaries for various types of waqf and different types of beneficiaries. Donors' characteristics, as well as internal and external aspects of incentive, all contribute to the phrase "donate more." "Share more" refers to information exchange between three parties: the waqf manager/mutawalli, donors, and recipients. Waqf Prosumers encourage donors, in which the same person plays all three roles of Beneficiaries, Donors, and Volunteers in order to disseminate information. The Benefidonor Concept is dependent on the interactions between the three parties. The three parties share common interests in cultivating the quality of growth and change, as evidenced by their same points of view on 'Use more, donate more, and share more.' Furthermore, we discovered that in order for the donor to repeat, accountability and reporting are critical.1 37 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
